Powder Shortage

Anyone hear when powder may be available for reloading anytime soon?
I am seeing some ammo coming back, but reloading powders still seem unobtainium.

My .357sig reloading is at a standstill until I find more powder.

Anyone find any?

Check out Powder Valley, Inc, I see they have some Vihtavuori N340 in 1 lb size left. Couple days ago they had the 4 lb size too but it is now out. Expensive powder, and I haven't used it but the load books list it for use with 357 Sig and 40S&W ctgs.

I figure it will be mid to late August before we see any quantities at LGS' aside from the large chain shops. I tend to get my powder from gun shows, prices have returned to normalish and supply is increasing.

I did get a 1#keg of IMR 4064 for under $25 last weekend, the stuff is out there. Wish I was smarter and grabbed a couple of the 1# Unique kegs for $19 ea...

I saw powder on Midway's site & gunbroker today; those were the first & only two places I looked. I've been looking a little because I'm going to get started doing it myself so with that I don't know if the prices are too high or what else may be wrong with the picture like I noticed Midway was out of stock on most but seemed to have plenty varieties of Norma brand powder...bad powder? Not the right price? *meh shrug*

I was at the gun show in Irving Texas today and saw at least one dealer with a LOT of powder. They had primers, bullets, etc. also. Looks like the insanity might just be over -- until the next time.

tell your gun shops to order some. Got it running out our ears. And primers too, 5 shops close by have it all and bi-monthly gun show. So much i quit buying for now.

I have seen a good supply of powder at gun shows and Cabela's usually has a good selection. Same with primers.

Quick Update;

For the second time, I got an email notice Powder was available and by the time I hit the website it was unavailable again. This latest one came in an email at 2:35 AM early Saturday. I snoozed until about 10.....and by the time I hit my email, it was too late.

"Ya Snooze, Ya Lose".

Fortunately the next day I started checking around and MidSouth Shooting Supply had it posted as "Available" so I got what I needed. Too bad they didn't have the primers I'd order to add into the hazardous shipment charge.
So the 8 lbs of needed powder was no bargain, but at least it'll serve my pistol reloading needs for quite a while.

Maybe we'll see supplies improving in the Fall.

Here in Kolorado our gun shows are a joke they are so high priced I went to sportsmans warehouse and priced powder and primers before going to show. They wanted 10.00 a pound more at the gun show and 2.00 a box of 100 primers more at the show. Didn't buy a darn thing. Gun shows are not bargains of any kind anymore. More trinkets and soap and girlie stuff its sad really.

No real problems here.

I have had to get creative and use different powders but overall, no real problems.

I am sure it is a real pain for some of the high performance rounds like the .357 SIG where "normal" powders reduce its performance to 9x19 levels...more or less...but basically, no issues if you are willing to be creative, accept a measure of change in performance, and accept that most of your bullets will wind up in the dirt bank of the the range.

For carry stuff, I've had to try a few different loads but have wound up with some good stuff as a result.

I have seen a trickle of powder in some shops and nada in others. I broke down and bought an 8lb keg of powder from Powder Valley for my 25-06 and 300 H&H. I am sitting solid on pistol powders from before the craziness hit.

Fortunately, I am loading on a single stage so volume is still not an issue...
