| wheres all the ammo going?
for over a year now, i have been going to walmart every friday to get a several hundred rounds of ammo for either shooting up that weekend or just adding it to my rainy day supply. Last week i bought two 100rd boxes of WWB 9mm and one 100rd box of Fed 9mm. I normally dont mix and match, but they were the last boxes of 9mm there was a few 50 rd boxes of the WWB left, but that was it. My brother said that all of the "range" 9mm ammo was gone at our local farm supply store which is normally a dollar or two per box higher. Is anyone else running into this?

I do my part. I reload so the next guy might can find an extra box on the shelf. But yes the shelves here in East Tn are getting lower each week. There is a record number of gun owners out there now. So I think along with the election and more shooters guns and ammo are in demand and the supply is low. Ruger alone has taken over 1 million orders in the first 3 months this year. So many like yourself will buy 50 -200 rounds whenever they can and it is just a high demand on the makers I think. |

At our local Walmart here in Crosby, they very rarely have any "popular" ammo on the shelves. This is about the only place to buy ammo in our town other than our indoor pistol range but they don't keep much of a selection there. I think when our WM gets in a fresh shipment, someone who works there has a buddy or something that gets the inside scoop that they have stock and they go and buy it up. (thats my conspiracy theory anyway)Either that or the store manager just doesn't order more once they run out. That's why I mainly order online when I plan on needing some. I may have to pay a little shipping but the online prices are around a dollar or two lower so it evens out a little. |

Reloading sounds like a good new hobby, but NONE of the ranges around here will allow the stuff and check the members all the time.

| Really? I only go to the range in the winter months, but as far as i know, reloads are acceptable there. The only thing that isnt is steel and aluminum cases, which i dont use anyways.

Yup, our local Turners store was cleaned out of 9mm. Hard to find any in stock anywhere. I wish people would stop freaking out about the election. There's no apacolypse folks, CHILL OUT!!! Guns aren't going anywhere, it's too engrained into the American culture, so quit hoarding. |

My LGS manager advised me this week that 9mm ammo will be going up by about $2 a box.

Walmart has ammo- it just goes fast. I go to Walmart at least 3 times a week-sometimes more. Every trip I stroll by the ammo counter-and ask if they have anything that hasn't been put in stock yet. I have seen them open a box ammo with 380 in it- and sell every box in less than an hour. If you are looking for cheap range ammo- try Freedom Munitions- I have seen 9mm as cheap as $8.50 per box + shipping. Ammunition Online at Factory Direct Prices | Freedom Munitions |

I'd guess the record number of gun owners has something to do with it. Take a guy like me. I'm a longtime shooter, but I had no 9mm in the safe. Now that I have one, I try to keep 500 to 1,000 rounds of range ammo on hand all the time. I cruise the Wally, the Rural King and the LGSs incessantly. When I see a decent buy, I scoop up as much as I can afford. |

| Suppose so. I'm from north central Illinois. Up there, Farm & Fleet was the biggest farm store. Nice shell selection and really good sales at the end of hunting seasons. Down here in southern Illinois, Rural King leads the league when it comes to farm supply stores. There's some variance in store-to-store stock, so when I'm near one and got a few extra bucks in the checkbook, I cruise the ammunition aisle. |

I shop the Walmarts in the SE region of Michigan. It depends on what day you go. Some days they have a ton of 9mm ammo...other days, absolutely nothing. But like other gun-owners here, when they have an ample supply, I buy as many boxes as I can afford. I admit on some days I have completely wiped them out of their 9mm and 45acp ammo. |

Election year. We Republicans and law abiding citizens are worried about the 2012/2013 Trayvon riots that are sure to come when Zimmerman is exonerated. LOL

I guess I'm lucky. I pass by Palmetto State Armory several times a week and stop once or twice. I grabbed the green plastic ammo cans of Blazer Brass 9 and 45 yesterday to stock up. FWIW I keep about 2k 9mm and 1k 45 on hand with a 100 12 Ga buck, 100 bird/game, 1k AK and 600 Mosin rounds about. Some 38/357 and 380 in there too. |
