If they aren't working right why exactly are you trying to buy some? A bit confused...

Different ammo;'s work in different guns.. Only thing I can say is this..... shoot what works, there is no magic bullet, bullets are meant to do one thing, fuck shit up. If you can't find a defense round that will run properly through your gun, then carry Full Metal Jacket if it works..... Again I say, there is no magic bullet, the bullets you carry are the bullets that function best in your weapon.

Which brings up the point that you should never carry any ammunition in your gun for self defense that you have not tested in the gun.

No doubt. 90% of the time when I "shoot" at the range or out in the Oregon Woods or whatever its usually with what I am going to carry. And if I don't want to spend all that money I get a ton of FMJ and 50-100 of what I am going to carry and run them through as well.

Perhaps I'm not interpreting this correctly, but if some rounds do not discharge the first time but will if fired again, usually means that the firing pin isn't denting the primer enough for the round to go off. It sounds more like you have a problem with the firearm rather than the round itself... unless the rounds have really hard primers.

Whatever the issue is, best practice is to always fire your self-defense rounds through your weapon to test for functionality BEFORE you use that type of round in your self-defense weapon. You don't want to be in a situation where you engage a threat and after you discharge your first round, you encounter a malfunction in your defense weapon. Also, your self-defense rounds may have different characteristics than your practice rounds causing a different hit area (higher, lower, to the right, or to the left) causing you to hit an unintended target. I cannot over-emphasize PRACTICE WITH YOUR EQUIPMENT.

I’ve used .357 mag Hornady Critical Defense in my S&W 340PD and have not had a failure yet. As others have pointed out, as expensively painful as it is, I regularly run my carry ammo thru my carry guns. I kind of like blowing up shit with my RBCD ammo.

The reason I asked was 1. I read in another forum (The High Road) that some people were having trouble with this ammo, mostly not firing on first strike but on a second time. & 2. I have been unable to locate it locally in either 9mm or 40 s&w the two types that I carry. ( I don't carry my Ruger 357 Mag Blackhawk) which is the about the only handgun ammo I have found around here, other than Shotgun (410 & 12). Sorry about the delay in getting back on Sig Talk but have had problem logging on with my Droid. Keeping getting locked out thru my errors and those cause by the broser changing login info i.e. I inpu my user name & it changes it to cabinet-cruncher. VERY fustrating.

Some have complained of hard primers but I've never had an issue.

Doesn't Hornady use CCI Primers?

If so, I have always known them to be very reliable in both manufactured ammo and the reloads that I have made.

I've used them in both .380 & 9mm and never had an issue with not firing on the first strike. I guess it's just more support for the theory of "test function your carry ammo choice in each firearm you will be using it in before relying on it". Just because it works for one firearm doesn't insure proper functioning in every firearm.

I heard some bad things about Critical Defense ammo. One reviewer said that if the prime was not gold color - it won't work reliably. I looked through my stock and sure enough, I had some silver primer CD ammo. I took it to the range today and it shot great. It just reenforced that this was good ammo. I will continue to use it! But I will only buy the gold primer color Critical Defense Ammo in the future.

Primer color doesnt have anything to do with it. I have ALOT of CD ammo with both color primers and never had a proble out of ANY of it and its all I shoot!
