Hey guys and gals,

With the topic covering the Glaser Safety Slugs, I've thought of an idea that might prove interesting and worthwhile, so I want to run it by you all. It seems there's always something lacking when I watch tests of different defense rounds. In the case of the Glaser video, the sheet rock was placed very close together, not allowing expansion. And it's difficult to find videos of people testing multiple brands, with the same exact testing procedure.

My main interest is collateral damage. I live in an apartment complex, so I feel I should be highly concerned about finding maximum effectiveness on target with minimum penetration through building materials. I certainly don't know the best way to test this but here's my general idea.

Get some drywall, 2x4s and insulation and make a bunch of 1' x 1' 2x4 frames, cap both sides with drywall and place insulation inside. Fire one round through each box to observe damage done to the somewhat standard wall design.

Also use a method to to test weight retention and penetration (a long box filled with newspaper or ballistics gel?)

The problem is, I can't afford to buy and test a bunch of rounds. So my idea is that one or two of us could volunteer to perform the tests, measurements, and building the testing blocks, etc, and the rest of us interested could each buy one type of ammo we're interested in seeing tested.

The only concerns I have are:

1. Is it legal to send ammunition in that manner? I know as of this coming February, in my great state of CA, ammo will be illegal to even purchase ammo in any manner except face to face.

Here's a link to an article I just found... How to Ship Ammo

2. What caliber do we use? I only own a .40 S&W, so of course I'm biased to want to test that round, but we all own a variety of calibers, mostly 9mm, .40 and .45

3. Which rounds do we test? I think with some research, there may be some rounds it wouldn't make sense to test. So maybe we can agree on a list of rounds and each of us volunteer to purchase one of them and send a few to the tester.

4. What would be the best standard test to put the ammo through?

If any of you are interested, maybe we can make this happen sometime in the future.

Sounds about right. I had mentioned in that thread that the wall pieces were too close together. I'm thinking that this fact tainted the results by not allowing the birdshot to expand properly. I would like to first, send a round through walls a few inches apart and then have another larger wall at least 10' further back. I believe the wall sections being so close together, in the various tests I found, prevented their expansion, concentrating the energy. Secondly, I would like to see the test done at a 45 degree angle. However, now you've got me thinking the Cor-Bon company should be the one providing these tests. I will try to contact them this coming week and see what they say. Perhaps they have done this, but then why wouldn't they have this proof on their website?

If nothing else if they really believe in their product they might be willing to provide test ammunition.
