There are times for top of the line ammo and there are times for the cheap stuff. I've shot hundreds of rounds of Winchester "white box" ammunition with no problems, readily available at Walmart and similar stores. What good cheap ammunition have you found?

Just a followup, yesterday I shot some Federal American Eagle ammo through both my P228 and my 1911 and it worked flawlessly.

I usually shoot the cheapest ammo that I can find and that's something that I like about SIG's. Mine have shot anything without a single issue at all. I used to shoot Wolf ammo that I got from Sportsman's Warehouse but when I started thinking about reloading I started shooting Blazer Brass that Wally World sold so that I could begin collecting the brass. There is a company, Georgia Arms, that would come up here to Nashville and they sold their "Canned Heat" and after buying some from them at these gun shows I bought 1000 rds from their website and they have been perfect too.

I'm not a competitive shooter so cheap is my way to go. I still have not been able to start reloading but I'm getting closer every day.

Wednesday afternoon at the range I thought to myself that I should be saving all of this brass so when I do start reloading I'll have plenty to start out with. It'll probably be a while before I get to that point but I am definitely interested in learning the skill someday. I checked the Georgia Arms website, I can get 1000 rounds of the 9mm ammo for $12.10 a "box" (50ea). That's a couple of dollars cheaper than the Winchester white box I've been buying at Walmart.

I use Winchester White Box, Remington UMC (last on my list). Blazer Brass.

Usually I run more carry rounds than "plink", a firearm is useless if your ammo fails in your weapon, so shooting things I carry is usually what I do, yes its a bit pricier but I run my drills with this ammo, then if I want to goof off I use one of those brands.

I have been using Wolf ammo in 9mm & 40 S&W, if you don't mind cleaning your guns (I do), they'll be just fine.

I've shot plenty of Wolf that I got online but when I decided to start reloading I switched to brands that were brass. I still haven't started reloading yet but I've got a good pile of brass. I never had any issues with Wolf and as far as being dirty, I shot some MagTech that was dirtier than Wolf.

I looked at Wally World tonight and 9mm Federal was $10.?? and 40 cal Federal was $14.?? That's not that bad. When I shoot, which isn't as often as I would like, if I shoot 200 rds I will put 250-300 back so I always have a little more than I started with.

I pretty much stick with WWB from Walmart, but have been known to run a box of Blazer through my Glock. Right now I've got 147 gr. Federal HST's in the Beretta 92FS, and WWB 230 gr. JHP in the Kimber and Glock.

WWB 9mm 155gr from Wal-mart is the cheapest I can find locally. The only better deal I've found is the 124gr Federal American Eagle from Target Sports. A case of 1,000 goes for $219.95, SHIPPING INCLUDED. Their stock comes and goes, so you need to check often. Here's the link:

http://www.targetsportsusa.com/p-659...mmunition.aspx

Shipping is always free on case orders.

No connection to the company other than a satisfied repeat customer.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that uses Ammunition to Go!

Wal-Mart is the only place to go! UMC 250 round boxes in 9mm and 40S&W for $52 and $65 respectively. I took a defensive handgun course and I put almost 700 rounds of UMC 9mm through my P229 without any problems.

Lately, I've been buying my ammo at Wal-Mart... They have the best prices. I also buy from Turner's Outdoorsman when they are on sale, but Wal-mart's regular price is usually cheaper than Turner's sale price.

Last couple of years I’ve been buying from LuckyGunner. It’s owned by some young folks, they have a real time inventory and typically ship same day at very reasonable freight prices.

I’ve shot 1,000’s of their reloaded Military Ballistics ammo without any problems. Now that ammo prices have come down, I typically use Winchester, Fiocchi or PMC.

I just checked out the Ammunition to Go website... Their prices aren't all that great. In fact, Walmart prices are cheaper than them.

Wolf steel-cased won't run through my SIG 556, and I won't touch Blazer.

Beyond that, I use a lot of Winchester white box, Black Hills (.223), Korean PMC (.223), and the Academy house brand - Monarch (9mm, steel cased and brass).

Interesting, I used to think monarch steel cased 223 was actually wolf. Not 100% sure though.

They're both Russian-manufactured, so it is possible. But the difference is that I can run steel-cased ammo through my 9mm SIGs all day...it's the SIG 556 rifle that won't take it well. It doesn't cycle like it's supposed to.
