22LR Misfires

Hello!

Is it ok (and safe) to shoot a misfired 22LR round twice?

I just bought a Mosquito and have only used CCI Minimags. Not one FTF/FTE in 300 rounds so far, but I did have two rounds from the same brick that did not fire. On one round, I put it back in the magazine and it fired. On the second one, it did not fire. Is this a safe thing to do, or should I have tossed the round the first time?

Looking at the shell, it looks like there were solid hammer strikes. My newbie opinion would be this is just two bad rounds, but I wanted to check with others.

Thanks!

I can't see the harm in trying to cycle it through once more. OTH, .22 rimfires are relatively inexpensive and perhaps it's just a better move to dispose of the round and move on.

I have done it many times without mishap. Most did not fire the second time around either. 22 ammo has a strong tendency to misfire at a much greater frequency than centerfire ammo.

Cool, thanks. Just wanted to ask, safety first.

Yeah, they are cheap. But this being the Mosquito, wanted to make sure it was the round and not the gun (or operator!).

Thanks again!

Hello,

CCI rarely misfires, but when it does, just rotate the rim 180 degrees and try it again. Of course, wait 30 seconds or so to make sure it's not a hangfire before opening the breech!

Been getting a lot of misfires with Remington the past couple years, to the point I've given up on it.

A tip: CCI Blazer is as dependable as Mini-Mags and are, for all intents and purposes, Mini-Mags that have not been copper washed. I used them interchangeably in my "squirrel sniper" (a heavy-barreled .22LR rifle with high-powered 'scope on it) with Mini-Mags and they have the exact same points-of-impact. I prefer subsonic ammo, though, but the lube is the same and I don't have to worry about seasoning it in to another type of lube.

Blazers are a fraction of the price of Mini-Mags.

Just a thought.

Regards,

Josh

Is it normal to be able to spin the lead in the casing? I picked up a box of Remington's "New and Improved" 225's and randomly picking bullets, I am able to spin the lead easily on each one. I can't pull it out with my fingers though, but I am worried if it will have any affect on a .22 revolver.

Kenny: I can rotate the lead with many types of .22LR. Might affect accuracy, but not reliability if the bulletdoesn't tilt in the casing.
