...any of the big names will treat you right...they usually are built to a better standard (or even a standard )...I haven't had reliability with the cheaper priced ammunition so I shy away from it for anything other than the range...

Federal HSTs, Winchester Ranger Ts, Hornady critical Duty, whatever. They all work.

Here's something different for the list.

Black Hills 124gr JHP +P It was expensive stuff $39.99/box of 50

Planning on getting me some of those Federal HST's when I have the extra money to spend.

It was originally made for Illinois State Police in their old steel S&W 39 9mm's and designed to replicate the stopping power of the Federal 125gr. 357 magnum round many Highway Patrol agencies used in their old Model 28's. My dept, the Texas DPS used that magnum round for years and the Fed 9mm load is nearly its spitting image, so IMHO it's a damn fine load.

It runs just short of 1300fps and hits like a brick. I'd get a strong spring from Wolff springs to soften the blow, and I wouldn't shoot it like candy every day, but for duty it is easily the equal of the 357SIG.
True stuff.

The black hills offerings are very good but overpriced in my opinion. And as far as the federal 115+p+, hell yes, if you can find them. Any 115 +p+ hollow is a good choice as far as its from a reputable manufacturer. I only know of 2 or 3 loadings in this configuration and they are very hard to come by. Hell, i was browsing cheaper than dirt and ammunition to go and it seems as if alot of stuff is hard to get now that everyone is surging on ammo purchases. For all you guys freaking out and dropping thousands of dollars hoping to get grandfathered in, save your money. If and when this weapons ban takes effect, there will be no grandfathering or pre-law exemptions. They will be demanding with no buyback. Just something to think about.

I'm interested in getting a P6.
I found one for sale that the owner sent to Sig & had them fully disassemble it, clean it, put new springs and bushings in, and install factory night sights.
I've read were some of the earlier ones had issues with JHP due to the feed ramp geometry, but the newer ones didn't. I'm awaiting a reply as to what the previous owner shot through it.
In any case, should I shy away from the "hot" loads?

Winchester Ranger T or PDX1, Federal HST get the +p+ if you can find them run some to make sure they cycle. Use cheap ball for plinking in a defensive situation you or your wife neither one will notice the difference in recoil. As a bonus the extra velocity on the non-bonded rounds will cause more expansion and less penetration not as likely to go through the wall behind the problem.

I picked up 2 boxes of Hornady Critical Duty 135 gr and 2 boxes of their Critical Defense 115 for the wife. Haven't had the chance to pop any yet but at their price I won't be letting them fly for no reason!

9x18 Makarov - Hornady Critical Defense 95gr FTX
Glock 19 & Sig 938 - Cor Bon +P 115gr JHP (might get a heavier bullet for the Sig)

+1 for 127 gr Winchester Ranger T +P+. Of all the defensive ammo I've tried, this has the lowest flash for low light scenarios, inducing much less temporary blindness. Add the ballistics of this round, it is my number 1 choice

Love Hornady's Critical for carry and Winchester Ranger for the range (it feels like the Critical w/o the cost). Although, I'm wanting to try Winchester Gold(?) because I'm told it's just like the old Talons and I really liked those. I'll have to buy a couple of boxes and see.

I use Speer Gold Dot 124 +p. I would prefer to run standard velocity but +p is what I have currently available.
