Steel Cased Ammo?

Wondering if anyone has experience using steel cased 9mm or.380 ammo?

I have a P320 compact 9 and a P2320.380 and I am considering using steel cased ammo strictly as range/practice ammo. I have heard this type of ammo can cause excess wear and possibly be somewhat dirtier to shoot.

Appreciate any and all feedback.

My experience with it has been it's dirtier and a little more inconsistent than higher priced brass case ammo.

Some will say that it causes more wear, but I've yet to see any actual proof. How many thousands of rounds would it take to notice a difference between how much mild steel wears the hardened stainless steel of your barrel than brass?

You'll be fine with it, especially just for plinking.

I came to a point where I realized that saving a few cents on each round of ammo is not worth the potential extra wear and tear on my SIGS that shooting super-cheapo steel case Russian ammo causes.

Didn't mind it so much in my Glocks...but not in my $1,000-1,200+ SIGS.

Yup it's dirtier but I've always found it shoots ok. I haven't noticed any wear issues though.

Dirtiest of the dirty - Tulammo in .45 ACP

Only for my AK rifles and never for any other guns. I would never use 87 octane gazoline for my Mercedes as well, it is special mentality .... :)

In this test the steel cased ammo destroyed the guns

Very detailed review, thanks for posting. But what I got out of it is you can replace your barrel twice and still spend less overall when shooting steel cased ammo.

Or get into reloading, save your barrel and stuff extra bucks into your pocket.

No jams in 10,000 rounds of high speed shooting in rain and dust storms? Let's hear it for good ol' Minnesota made Federal.

Tula 9mm can be had now for about $180/1,000. Brass case 9mm, such as Speer Lawman, about the least expensive out there now, is about $210/1000. Cost savings of shooting the Tula over 10,000 rounds would be about $300. This would easily cover the cost of a replacement barrel, should it wear out in 10,000 rounds, which is highly unlikely.

I've been wondering why someone would shoot ammo at a range that they wouldn't consider using "in real life?"

To me, that means at the very minimum, my range ammo is new, brass cased, same-grain as I would use in my EDC. That said, I typically use a SD hollow point round as my carry ammunition, but I even shoot that occasionally at the range to keep the feel of it fresh.

Sure, it's more expensive, but it's more real-to-life shooting, to me. And that's why I shoot.
