| 9mm 115gr or 124gr
Which would you prefer for target shooting at the range ? I have a 9mm and I saw American Eagle on sale for 11.99 a box and there was 115gr and 124gr was not sure which one to buy, dose it really matter at the range?

I don't think it matters at the range. If you plan to pick up more than one box, try some of both and see what you prefer.

It doesn't matter in your case. When I reload, I use 124gr cast bullets, as oppose to 115gr. 115's get pushed a little too fast for my taste, which could create some leading issues.

I actually prefer 147's for range work and IDPA. They have a "softer" felt recoil IMO. JD |

I've been using 115 gr because 124s have become unavailable had/have some FTE issues with my new P938 (coincidentely(?) shooting 115 gr) and it's been recommended that I try 124 gr - can't find 'em (and 115s are hard to find now) |

Thanks for the info I have been using 115gr with a couple of failures but one guy at the range said to lube up the gun ! lol.. so I did and no problems after that, go figure.. I went down to buy some today and all they had left was AME 115gr so I baught a case they had on sale for 239.00 per 1000 should last a while . Xmas sale I guess.

The 115gr is the gold standard for 9mm. The larger bullets were designed for shorter barreled guns. The 124 and 147 supposedly perform better out of sub 4" barrels. There is more energy in a 115 gr loading, especially in +p loadings where the 9mm can bridge the gap of what are considered superior bullets such as the 38 special or 40 S&W. Practice with what you plan on using in your gun. 115 gr is much more available and a better choice to train with in my opinion. It will be a little snappier than the heavier 9mm bullets but even the most stout 9mm round still shoots pretty soft.
