What do you carry/shoot and why?

I know putting the round on target accurately, and where it will stop the threat quickly is very important. I'd like to know how the members of the forum feel about their ammo. Like reading different thoughts, and may pick up a few new ideas.
What do you carry/shoot and why?
For me:
9mm- 124gr Gold Dot or Golden Saber 124gr +p
I use my 9's when I'm riding in the mountains can carry more ammo for protection, and to signal if something goes very bad. I value pack of 100 FMJ is on the quad just in case.
.40 cal- 165gr either PDX1 or Golden Saber
Both are accurate, and hard hitting. These are my EDC/CCW weapons
.45 cal- either Gold Dot 200gr +P or PDX1 230gr
I have new school and old school .45's. New school gets the Gold Dot, and old school gets the PDX1. One of these are on my hip when I'm sitting around the campfire.

I keep the 229 in 357sig on me, its accurate, hardly any recoil, and basically orgasmic to shoot. Especially with the pretty fire ball my loads made up with #7 make.
Have the 40 barrel for it, but leave that round for my full size M&P.

SP2022: 9mm +P 147-grain Federal HST or 115/124/147-grain Gold Dots. I've also carried and shot: Hornady TAP FPD, Hornady Critical Duty, Hornady Critical Defense, El Dorado Starfire, Winchester Ranger-T (awesome load in 147-grain), and various others.

Remington R1: .45 ACP. Big bullets with big holes in the ends of them. They all seem to work fine and they are always at least .451" in diameter... Currently? I've got some Fiocchi 230-grain JHPs I picked up in Cabela's and some PMC Bronze 185-grain JHPs. What do I want to have in my Colt Commander when it gets here on Tuesday? Federal HSTs, 230-grain. I won't say no to any of the Hornady loads, Winchester loads, or Remington loads. I also like Gold Dots in .45...

Why do I carry those 9mm loads? They are all proven to expand in ballistic gelatin after passing through FOUR layers of denim and they leave a nasty wound track. The 147-grain HSTs from Federal are by far the most impressive "tarantula" I've seen come out of gel. Why do I carry just about any .45 HP? Because they pretty much all work. I just look for something with lower flash and a good reputation for expansion in denim. I stick with so-called "heavy for caliber" year-round, which means 147s in the 9mm and 230s in the .45, but that doesn't mean I shy away from any other bullet weights.

Standard Federal FMJ factory load. Buy a box of 50. Shoot 10 at the range to verify function. Store 10. Carry the remaining 30.

In an after-incident investigation, of the stored 10, 3 goes to law enforcement, 3 goes for independent testing, and 4 stays in evidence.

Interesting. Could you explain your experience or reasoning for this?

I was wondering too. Also why only 50 rounds and why FMJ?

P238 SAS cocked and locked with Hornady Critical Defense 90 gr FTX in a 7 round magazine. also carry an additional 7 round mag in my pocket for a total of 15 rounds.

M11-A1 in a Blackhawk holster but I currently don't have any personal defense ammo for it, only hardball paper shooting ammo.

Federal Champion 9mm FMJ, from WallyWorld. Do y'all mean to tell me that someone has other types of ammo for sale? I haven't seen any, lately.

In an investigation after a use of deadly force, your firearm will likely be confiscated and may or may not be returned to you.

It is imperative that you be able to identify all rounds you shot and all rounds you didn't shoot. Hard to do without the firearm. Possible to do with spare rounds from the same batch.

Repeat for as many boxes as necessary.

I shoot standard FMJ ammo only. Consult a defense attorney with investigative experience and formulate your own opinion.

Thanks for the heads up. I was aware of this but never thought to have the remaining ammo from the box/lot on hand to turn over as part of the ballistics investigation. I alwaus just knew what i kept in the SD guns and its all standard factory ammo...no reloads or custom loads.

Cheers!

I have plenty of "investigative experience". Yes, your weapon will be taken, and there will be investigation. A defense attorney is not an expert on shooting situations. In a shooting siuation law enforcement is going to investigate who, what, when, where, why, and how. The information is gathered and turned over to the D.A. for review and possible legal action.
When your weapon is taken they will shoot a test round from your weapon, and match that round to the rounds taken as eveidence. With a FMJ you run more of a risk of the round passing through a subject or other medium, and injuring those who are not involved, then a hollow point round.
The key to a shooting situation is stopping a threat as quickly as possible. FMJ rounds have less chance of stopping a threat then HP rounds. That is why law enforcement agencies do not use FMJ round as duty ammunition. To many risks to the public, and officer.
You would be better off talking to your local law enforcement agency then to a defense attorney. If a defense attorney is telling you this then he is setting you up to be their client in a criminal and civil matter.

It is imperative that each person obtains all the facts and make the best decision possible. There is no universal solution to all situations, and no one can tell you what's best for you.

Please allow me to clarify. I said:

I did not say any defense attorney; instead, I said one with "investigative experience", which would mean "an expert on shooting situations". My defense attorney on retainer has extensive law enforcement experience and was a former ADA for many years.

Again, CCW law is specific to the state and local jurisdiction. It is imperative that you work with people who understand and are familiar with the laws as they are applied where you are, and formulate your own opinion.

As per FMJ, with all due respect, I understand that law enforcement's opinion is to minimise collateral damage. When I carry as a private citizen, my main concern is to maximise survivability. If I were on duty I would carry whatever the department issued, and if the department does not issue or I am given the choice, I would carry a different ammo, but that situation is outside the context of this thread.

I believe this is limited to civilian CCW. My response would be different in a different context.

Thank you for your comment.

P.S. I have already consulted my local agency about what kind of ammo they recommend for civilian/off-duty CCW; however, they declined to comment. Short of extreme ammos (e.g. incendiary rounds, explosive rounds, etc.), the local LEOs here have no comment and do not restrict any particular type of ammo.

Yes, but WHY are you using FMJs for everyday carry? Are the prosecuting attorneys in your area more liable to prosecute you if you use hollowpoints?
