| P239 and +P
I've got a line on a decent deal for 1000 rounds of 9mm Remington GS 124gr +P. Would this be a good range round or should it be geared more towards keeping them around and loaded for self defense scenarios? Would 1000 rounds of +P through a P239 tear it up? Thanks, Gun newbie |

+p ammo you have is for defensive use. Shoot some so you may be familiar with the recoil and flash if any. Golden sabres are good defensive loads, save them or trade them for some range ammo. Full metal jackets is what you want for range use. Economical and less wear and tear on your 239. Extended use of higher pressure ammo will increase stress on your pistol. Have fun. |

Ok, with that being said, does any old FMJ work for range rounds i.e. the "budget" brands I see on websites? (I'm talking Independence 9mm Luger 115 Grain Full Metal Jacket Ammunition) I would assume there are some risks with shooting junk ammo at the range, i.e. dirtier and more likely to jam, although I dont know what increases that jamming possibilities with ammo. Still learning. Thanks again! Last edited by mispoken; 01-22-2013 at 07:59 AM. |

IMO, certain brands of ammo are historically dirty and prone to failures. Tula, brownbear and some others are foreign made. Most of them are steel cased and I have witnessed the case splitting in chambers after firing them which causes failure to extract. Stick with quality range ammo like winchester, remington, magtech, federal and so on.

I'll do my best, but, finding the name brand stuff like you mentioned above is next to impossible. Never mind the fact that I can't have ammo shipped into the city limits of Chicago. I'll be driving down to Maxwell AFB on I-65 all the way and will be looking for some good gun shops along the way to stock up. Stupid Chicago.

Sorry to hear that you live in a anti-gun city. Try a walmart also. Your rolling the dice though. If you see any range ammo..get it. Quality or not because by the time you get to your car, it may be gone. People are hording ammo. I am one of them! |
