Good topic. Review your local laws to help you formulate a plan that allows you to protect yourself and stay on the right side of the law. Some rural areas allow shooting dogs on your property. Some require threatening of livestock or people. etc..
I carry a pepper spray when walking my dogs to the parks. I'm in a suburban city in Los Angeles county and will never get a CCW in this county. So a gun is out of the question for dogs here.
