Great story about a permit holder in North Carolina responsibly using his firearm to defend himself. It's a shame he will likely lose his job because he protected himself and his fellow employees.

The pizza co. is worried about the liability of the delivery people carrying weapons. Not the delivery persons lives. Good for him for defending himself! He can always find another job. But he can never replace his life!

Jobs are hard to come by these days but its better than dying! I've got people that are completely dependent on me so I need to do everything that I can to be sure that I'm there for them. I recently got a part time job that requires me to handle the money in a grocery store and close the store. I asked what they thought about me carrying my gun while I was working and they were fine with it!!! I carry my SIG from the time I get up and dressed in the morning until I go to bed at night. I very rarely go anywhere that I am restricted to carry.

I would never take a job making deliveries without carrying a gun and yes I know that doesn't guarantee my safety.

Agreed, no more Pizza Hut for me. A company that fires an employee for saving his own life and probably the manager's life is not getting any more of my money.

As a Charlotte resident I'm doubly appreciative of his actions... my tax dollars would have to pay to send those clowns back through the legal system and keep them in prison.

Here's hoping he finds another, better job very soon!

I'm going to play a little devils advocate here.

Maybe we are jumping the gun on the management of pizza hut. Let's assume, that they are not anti-gun, and fired him for a reasoning that is larger than just "we don't like guns". By firing him, they said to all of their employees, "we don't condone you carrying guns on the job". Does that mean the management is anti-gun? Not necessarily. If they shook the guy's hand and said great job, we are giving you a raise, then the message sent to all pizza hut employees is "we condone you carrying guns on the job". The question you have to ask yourself is, if you were in their shoes, and you were the business owner, would you want to be the one liable for that rare chance that one of your gun toting employees shoots the wrong person, or goes nuts and shoots somebody innocent? However regrettable that he was fired, by firing that employee, Pizza hut has set a precedence for themselves for any future situation where such an event occurs that somebody innocent gets shot. Pizza Hut can then say "in 2010 we fired an employee for carrying a gun on the job, we do not condone that at all". All it does is set them up some deniability. They can not afford the liability that goes along with openly condoning employees carrying guns. Some hurt feelings from one guy, his friends and his family is a small price to pay to avoid the greater possible costs associated with being liable for some other employees actions in the future that were not justified.

So what it boils down to, is essentially "don't ask don't tell". If you end up having to use your gun, and you get fired, that sucks..but at least you're not dead right?

Very true... as a business, they definitely have to manage liability. Still, it is unfortunate that he will lose his job - hopefully Pizza Hut will be diplomatic about the whole thing. Luckily, I like Papa John's better anyway so a boycott really wouldn't have changed much for me

Pizza Hut has gotten my last order. I'll eat store bought pizza before I buy another Pizza Hut pizza. I don't think they were one damn bit diplomatic and should have gave him a raise and praised him. To hell with "politically correct".
