| First Sig, New to Forum
I happened into a LGS today looking for a carry gun. I made the stupid mistake of getting rid (trading in) my S&W BodyGuard 380. That BodyGuard 380 was my favorite carry gun. I traded it for a Ruger Hunter Model ( stupid but I really have fun with the Ruger. I was kind of looking for a Ruger LC9 because I wanted something with a little more punch than a 380. When I walked in to the LGS and browsed around I saw this Sig Sauer 9mm. I have always heard good things about Sig so I asked to see the gun. I picked it up and it felt good in my smallish hands (I am 5' 5"). I always carried my BG380 loose in my pants front pocket so I slipped this Sig into my front pocket. Surprising enough it felt pretty comfortable in my pocket. I asked what model it was and the owner stated P290. He said it came with two magazines, a 6 and an 8 round, he then stated it also came with a very nice holster and started to pull the holster from the box. I told him I wasn't interested in the holster and didn't care to see it because I would just carry the gun in my pocket. I told him to hold it for me that I would be right back. He did hold it and I went and picked up 2 guns to trade in on it. I am glad I did, the quality seems really good and the gun fits me real well. I really like the sights and the fact that the y are night sights are a plus. The night part of the sights are very very bright, which I really liked. I also like that the pistol was double strike capable. When I got to the car I loaded up the 6 round mag and looked at the holster, it actually worked very well and went around town with the gun in the holster in a front carry position. Worked very well for me. Is the gun the smallest 9mm, nope but to me it is about the right size and weight not to small nor to big. Like I said, This is my first Sig and I am liking it so far. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet but I have no doubt from the reviews that I have read that it will shoot just fine. It was a little difficult to break it down, but after watching a fellow YouTuber doing it I managed it fairly easy. I did notice you really have to slam the Magazines home with the heal of you're hand to get them to seat properly, but I believe that will get better with break in. I really just wanted to talk about my new CCDW weapon and say Hi to everyone hear. I am a big gun enthusiast and I am a member on several other sites. So Hello from Kentucky ! One more comment or should I say question. This model P290 has had a few groing pains and I have the RS model which I believe has all the bugs worked out, is this not a very popular gun or is it just seem to me that I don't see a lot on the web sites about this gun ? Just currious what every one else thinks about this gun and if they enjoy carrying it as much as I did on my first day ? Thanks ! Last edited by jstanfield103; 12-08-2012 at 09:41 PM. |

Just got done taking it out and firing it for the first time. I like it better than the M&P Shield that I used to own. I bought the Shield to hopefully conceal it for carry but it was just to big. I can wear this one on my belt or just loose in my pocket and it feels really good (at least loose till I get a pocket holster for it). I read some where that this person's P290 was firing low, Sig CS told them that with the Sig night sights on the gun that the front sight should cover the target. I only fires one 6 and one 8 round magazine through it do to the rain. 1st mag just a little low, second mag was right on, I did cover the target with the front sight on the second magazine. That makes since because if you were aiming in the dark you would be covering the target with the night sight. I am really liking the gun more I handle it. I believe this will make the perfect carry weapon or atleast so far I feel very comfortable with it. If you want a good compact 9mm to carry you won't be disappointed in this gun. Just remember to get the RS model not the first model they had to many light strikes and no double strike capability.
