Here is an update on CCW in Illinois Leaders of the Illinois Assn. of Chiefs of Police voted Wednesday to change their stance on the issue. They now support legalizing concealed carry. It’s a big boost for those trying to repeal Illinois’s ban on the concealed carrying of handguns. The group of top cops had long opposed the idea. They voted two years to go neutral on the issue. http://www.nraila.or...s.aspx?ID=14978 LittleBob |

More good news... a lot of us hope ILL goes with CCW. The record of the past two decades demonstrates that you can strengthen the right of law-abiding adults to protect themselves against crime without making the world more dangerous. That knowledge is helpful in Illinois, to those willing to learn from experience. by Steve Chapman Chicago Tribune Keep reading at http://www.chicagotr...,4417269.column LittleBob |

It’s hard to believe that they are even considering CCW… Every time something like this comes up the guys in Chicago stop it. So lets all hope they see all the Money the state can make on the license and pass it. LittleBob |

Good news... Illinois court allows nonresidents to transport guns 4/11/2011 The Associated Press SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Supreme Court says people permitted to carry guns in other states may transport them here without an Illinois license. The court ruled unanimously Thursday in the case of an Indiana resident who was arrested in May 2005 with a gun in a closed backseat armrest of his car. Leonard Holmes was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of weapon because he lacked a Firearm Owners Identification card and didn't have the gun in a case. Holmes had a permit to carry a concealed firearm in Indiana, and the court held that Illinois law does not require a FOID card too. It also ruled the armrest served as a case. The case is People v. Holmes. http://www.kfvs12.co...redirected=true So it only took 7 years for Illinois to clear his name/record... I wonder if he will be able to get any of the money back that I am sure he had to spend on a lawyer. Unbelievable LittleBob |

| By DEANNA BELLANDI and ZACHARY COLMANThe Associated Press SPRINGFIELD — Gov. Pat Quinn's vow Tuesday to veto legislation allowing Illinois residents to carry concealed firearms in public did not dissuade a House committee from passing the bill. Illinois and Wisconsin are the only two states that don't allow licensed gun owners to carry concealed weapons. Illinois' lawmakers' bid to change that passed 12-1 in the House Agriculture and Conservation Committee. Quinn had promised earlier in the day during a news conference in Chicago to veto the bill or any similar measure that came to him. "This is not in any way a public safety measure this bill, this is the opposite of public safety. Loaded concealed handguns in the possession of private citizens will lead to more danger and more bad things happening," the Democratic governor said. But Rep. Brandon Phelps, D-Harrisburg, the bill's chief sponsor, said he is close to securing a veto-proof, 71-vote majority. He plans to call a vote Thursday in the House. Phelps predicted Quinn's announcement will cost him key votes among downstate Democrats during a politically sensitive time. Both chambers are back in Springfield this week and hope to approve a budget for the next fiscal year before adjourning May 31. I hope you do get enough votes to overturn a veto. It will require continue pressure to ensure it.

| NRA Files Suit Against Unconstitutional Ban on Carrying Firearms for Self-Defense in Illinois Friday, May 13, 2011 Fairfax, Va. -- The National Rifle Association is funding and supporting a lawsuit that challenges the constitutionality of Illinois’ complete and total ban on carrying firearms for self-defense outside the home. The case, filed today in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, is Shepard v. Madigan. The lead plaintiff is church treasurer Mary Shepard; joining her is the Illinois State Rifle Association, the NRA’s state affiliate. Mary Shepard is an Illinois resident and a trained gun owner with no criminal record, who is licensed to carry a concealed handgun in two other states. Because Illinois remains the only state that completely prohibits all law-abiding citizens from carrying firearms for self-defense outside the home, Mary Shepard also became a crime victim. While working as the treasurer of her church, Mrs. Shepard and an 83-year-old co-worker were viciously attacked and beaten by a six-foot-three-inch, 245-pound man with a violent past and a criminal record. Mrs. Shepard and her co-worker were lucky to survive, as each of them suffered major injuries to the head, neck and upper body. Mrs. Shepard’s injuries required extensive surgery and physical therapy. Click here to keep reading LittleBob |

Illinois has the worst gun laws of any state. Only police officers and the taxpayer funded bodyguards for ex Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley have the right to carry a handgun outside their homes. Everyone else is out of luck unless a pair of federal lawsuits filed last week succeed in arguing that the Second Amendment right to "keep and bear Arms" means that people can actually bear arms in the land of Lincoln.
