Im a fan of lehigh max expansion in my 9mm and 1911. I spoke w lehigh and underwood and the round cant hold the velocity. I currently have my 224 loaded with lehigh extreme defense. Ive watched and read about alot of rounds however havent shot much else. I can say im not a fan of critical defense and like the winchester ranger t series. I get this all runs on personal preference but first hand knowledge expands the mind

I use either Remington Golden Saber bonded or Underwood Gold Dot. If you are going to shoot .357 Sig then you need to keep the fps at 1350 or higher. Other wise you're just shooting a 9mm with less mag capacity.

I have a P229 with both a 9mm and .357 Sig barrel. Underwood's advertised velocity on 9mm +P+ is 1,300 fps. On .357 Sig it's 1,475.

So I get it that there's a 175 fps difference, but how important is it? For sure, the cost of the .357 Sig is high, but +P+ is also not "bargain basement" stuff. And no, I would not want to get shot with a round at 175 fps. Even if it's dead slow for pistol purposes, it's twice the speed of a fast ball.

My inclination has been to leave the 9mm barrel in and shoot UMC for target, and Underwood for brush-up and for defense.

That said, I dusted off the .357 Sig barrel last week and it seemed to shoot very well. I am no pistolero, but I was hitting a 10-inch plate 6 out of 10 times standing at 75 yards. Not feet. Yards. And that was with Remington UMC factory loads in .357 Sig.

All loads in 124 gr. (not 125). Any idea why a one-grain variance in ammunition?

I love the black talons. My 1911 is split 4 gen 1 back talons and 4 lehigh max expansion. The pic in 1st post to right is both i pick for water ballons we do expansion tests with. The bt was 7/8 inch in diameter and the max expansion was 1 3/8 inch. Both where caught in 5 water ballon after 4 layers of denim.
