If you travel at all, and have even the slightest interest in firearms, I would STRONGLY recommend that you become licensed to carry concealed. The training will be both enjoyable and beneficial. Carrying concealed is just as much a state of mind as a physical situation...the training helps achieve the right state of mind. Not to mention that KEEPING and BEARING arms are YOUR RIGHT!! EXERCISE IT!! |

The only time I don't carry is when I am at work. (I'm a school administrator...would be illegal to carry at work. I keep telling my superintendent that the Israelis do it, so we should too. He hasn't bought it yet.) |

See in Oregon if you have your CHL you can carry on schools, at that point it comes down to your legal rights vs. employer firing you lol. I carry at work.

The only time that my SIG is not on my hip is when I'm sleeping (then it's between my mattress and box springs) or i choose to go to a place where it is illegal (that rarely ever happens but is necessary sometimes) and when I'm in the shower. I even wear it while I'm doing yard work. In TN we have an HCP (Handgun Carry Permit) which allows for either concealed or open carry. That way if we are spotted with a gun that was intended to be concealed but is seen we are still in no trouble I would recommend getting your carry permit because 1- "Trouble never makes an appointment" or 2- "When seconds count, the Police are only minutes away". That's not knocking the Police. They do what they can but it is rare that they are in the right place at the right time. I got my HCP after my wife and I returned home one evening and had 2 guys in the house as we arrived. They decided not to confront us and went out as we came in. They had found a S&W .357 that I had here but I guess that they were worried that I might also have one on me and didn't want to be involved in a shootout. I'm glad they choose to leave. |

Its illegal to carry any weapon onto a school campus in FL. The only ones allowed are officers. The faculty are not even allowed to have on in their car. Just saying I know you are not from around here. To the OP, definitely get your concealed permit. Especially if you are keeping it in the car. Florida laws are sketchy at best when it comes to having the gun in the car if you do not have your permit. Say if you are with your wife/significant other and you have a permit and you have the gun stashed within arms length in the car and they are driving (and they do not have a permit) and you are in the passenger seat, they could get in trouble if the cop wants to be a prick. Their is also a 3 step process garbage rule. (It has something to do with you shooting the guy being pre-meditated if it gets to court, if you do 3 things to shoot someone, that means you thought about shooting them 3 times before pulling the trigger , Bunch of BS) anyways I say get it.

I hope I don't need to carry at all times, but I will probably keep a gun in my vehicle. My motto is that it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I'm assuming that CWP is your concealed carry permit. I'm not familiar with Florida laws regarding concealed or open carry, but here's a question I would be asking myself... "What can happen to me if I am caught carrying and I don't have a permit?" Will I lose my rights to own and possess a firearm? Either way, I would want to avoid trouble. Common sense tells me that if the state of Florida allows its citizens to get a carry permit, get the permit. I'm from California and its almost impossible to get a carry permit.

I second what Badger and Jeff.Slim said. It is your right, given by the 2nd Amendment! I also carry 24 / 7 /365 , It is better to have and not need, then need and not have. |
