If you could design your perfect carry weapon

I was looking at a P320sc the other day. I had not handled one yet, but interested in something slightly smaller than my P320c.

I was very impressed with how thin the grip was, and it is still a double stack magazine. It is about the same width as an M&P shield or Walther PPS M2.

Then, there is the slide, just as wide as a full size 320, that sits on top.

I could get about 1/2 my little finger comfortable on the grip.

It all made me dream.....of a double stack sig like the sc 320 grip, about 1/4 inch longer, with a narrower slide and about a 3.4 barrel

That would be sweet!

Can't help you with the slide or barrel, but a compact 15 round magazine with an X-Grip spacer does a great job of providing a little bit longer grip and three rounds more capacity at the same time. That's the way I carry my P320sc 9mm.

Sig Sauer did it for me, a 1994 P229-40. I added the Hogue G10's, Sig installed the Xray sights and did an action enhancement job. I praise this pistol constantly on this forum. It has earned it's superstar status with countless trips to the range and over 30,000 rounds without a single hiccup. The slide, frame and barrel are still in pristine condition.

Amen brother, Preach it!!

There can only be one true best, an inspired moment in pistol design when all came together just right, pistol and cartridge perfection. Oh, there will be pretenders, but there's only one:

SIG P229 40 DA/SA

For those so fortunate as to have one from the '90's to the early 00's, if they were an oil painting, they'd be a da Vinci, Rembrandt, or Van Gogh. Okay, maybe a smidgen of exaggeration, but still dang good.

A double stack version of a kahr tp9 . That would just about hit all my wishes 15 rounds 1.10 wide grip , .094 slide and 22oz . The tp9 is already a smaller pistol for a 4" barrel . Controllable and a great smooth DA rigger pull of 5lbs .

Or a less costly version of the lite weight 25oz STI 2011 guardian double stack 15 round 9mm made by RIA .

My M11A1 is *almost* the perfect carry weapon. It's certainly the right size (any smaller and I don't shoot well) and the right weight (any lighter and it wouldn't absorb the recoil so fantastically). I can stick 15+1 rounds (while I *could* get 17+1 the longer grip then wouldn't be as perfect as it is) which should be plenty.

So what's the only thing I'd change? I'd like a green laser for it -- right now I have the CT red grip model, and while that's fine these old eyes like the green laser better. I can get the one that replaces the guide rod but that worries this old fart -- replacing any original parts with third party stuff (other than grips) seems to be asking for trouble.

Perhaps some day CT will make one (I do NOT want anything attached to the front even if I did have a guide rail -- just something that will allow me to use my existing holster like the CT does).

Easy. p232 size but in 9mm, and double-stack. All metal and weighs under 20ozs.

The closest to this is the S&W 6906. I would prefer a Sig version, though. The p224 is probably the closest thing they make. Grip is a little short and it is a little too thick and heavy to be considered the "perfect" carry weapon.

I too am in the category of "Don't have to"

I divide the "perfect carry weapon" into 3 categories -- pocket carry, IWB, and OWB open carry.

Pocket -- Sig P238
IWB -- Shield 40
Open Carry -- Sig Legion 9 DA/SA

I owned a P229 40 and it was my least favorite Sig P series gun. I traded it for something but I can't remember what it was. Just goes to show that everybody is different and one man's treasure is another man's junk. To be fair, my P229 wasn't junk. I just didn't like it as much as my other Sigs for some reason.

I've been real happy with my P320SC 9mm as a carry gun. There's not much I'd change about it. I guess if I was getting picky I'd like it to be a bit slimmer but that's reaching. All in all it's just about perfect as is.

I think SIG miss the mark completely with the 320 series calling a 6.7" in length a sub-compact is laughable. I once own the the P290RS but that loooooooooong trigger pull hand me selling it.

But did it ever carry nice in my front pants pocket. It's the only way I will carry my 'primary'.
Sometimes I regret selling it and for $399.00 it wasn't a bad deal.

And I'm am a double action person but I discovered double action in a semi-automatic is really not the same as double action in revolvers.

So to answer your question if I was to get another semi-automatic then give me P290RS size.
