Hey guys and gals! It's been far too long since I've been active on SIGTalk! School has drained every ounce of time (and life force) I have and then some for the past few months, but winter break is here and it's time to return to my favorite past-time... anything involving guns! Recently a friend of mine was given some FrogLube CLP. He has not used it yet, but the reviews and information I've read online suggest it is a godsend in the firearms world. I searched our forum and see a few of you have used it, but not too much was said about it. Does anyone have anything to say about the validity of all the claims FrogLube has surrounding it? Is it worth the high cost? The site warns not to use conventional solvent cleaners after using FrogLube because FrogLube will break down the cleaning agent. If I saturated my gun with FrogLube am I stuck cleaning it with FrogLube for the rest of my life? They aren't clear on what the effects of using a solvent like Hoppe's again would do. If you've never heard of FrogLube, it seems like some pretty amazing stuff. Give their website a look and prepare to be skeptical. FrogLube CLP "It Just Works" |

A friend of mine swears by it, but until it becomes more mainstream I say "why fix what isn't broken?"

That's basically where I'm at. My guns will long outlast me with how I care for them. But if everything is true about what they say, I might consider switching over. | |

I've used Froglube for the past few months. I like it. It works as claimed insofar as wipe-down easy cleaning. Firing residue does not want to stick to it. The CLP cleans and lubes as advertised. The paste is where it's at though - and a little goes a very long way. Follow the directions for the paste - warm the metal, apply the paste (which should liquify if your gun is warm enough). Allow to cool until the paste is no longer liquified, i.e. dry, and wipe off the excess. I'm testing a couple of guns to see how long I can get by with just wiping off the firing residue and reassembling. My P225 is up to 300 rounds and remains perfectly well lubricated and very clean. |

I've never used it but have read mixed reviews (mostly positive) I've been using Corrosion X for about 7 years now and have not seen any reason to change to another CLP, let alone one that is expensive, comparatively, and has restrictions on what I can use going forward.

I have been using it on my p229DAK and MK25. Been reluctant to wipe it all off and shoot "dry" like they say. Are you guys wiping completely off, even the rails, or are you putting some of the liquid version on the rails and leaving it as the lubrication?

I know not too many people have replied to this post in a long time, but I am a sigtalk member, and when I googled "sig sauer froglube" this came as post number 3 or 4. For this, I'll give my input. In general, I've evolved from a cheap CLP (not even knowing what CLP stands for) to using hoppes, Walmart safari land break free CLP, to Ballistol. I love Ballistol. Being only curious is why I even tried froglube. I thought Ballistol basically 100 year old formula that is the best you can buy. That is where I was wrong. I was skeptical at first. I thought that something called 'froglube' must just be a joke and work mediocre at best. I then youtube video searched and learned. Went to their website and took in a lot of information. They are 100% American made and aid and donate to American solider foundations. The more I read the more everything made perfect sense. Being a metal worker myself, I never thought about my own guns porosity and filling the pores with a cleaner instead of Carbon or potential water molecules. I still thought that even though everything sounded great, letting my handgun go without physically seeing the lube would spell a disaster. So I did what any skeptic who is stupid would do. Try it on their most lubricant-relying gun they own. For me, that is my sig P229E2. Stupid, huh? Well not so fast. I followed the process to a T and then for the next several weeks fired my handgun at the range, carried it daily, and cleaned it after every 200 rounds to help with the 'seasoning' process. Froglube works. That's it. It's not what you'd expect it to be, but that's the beauty. It gives my handgun it's original intended look, and I don't need to worry about cleaning extra hard. I love being able to take a cloth and wipe it down and not worry about it one bit. If you are like me and worry to hell about the lubrication of the slide, I recommend you using some of their liquid stuff and run it along the inside of the slide rails. Put your mind to rest if you want, but I honestly can say it isn't necessary. If you have any doubts about froglube, I at least say to give it a chance. Hell, sig sauer is a partner with froglube on the froglube website. |

I have been using frog lube for about six months. I use it on all my Sigs, my Glocks, and my Browning Hi-Powers (which are lube drinkers). It has a pleasant odor --- I have cleaned and lubed guns on the dining room table, without complaints from the wife. It also makes cleaning a breeze. |

And I'm not sure what/which forum i read it from. A guy did a non scientific experiment with several types of lube and it went like this; He put a specified amount of the lube on a piece of alu foil and lite it on fire for a specified length of time. Frog lube, Superlube (hardware store high temp white lith grease) and something else were tried. The results showed that Froglube and the something else left behind carbon residue where the Super lube did not. I guess the purpose of the experiment was to simulate what was happening when your weapon heated up with repeated firing and what was being left behind, carbon fouling. The poster was not a fan and was reserving judgement on the product and felt that the Super lube was as good but cheaper and the Froglube had a fantastic marketing scheme going. |

I saw the youtube videos and thought id give it a try at the beginning of the year. Best price was on amzon before word got out on it and i got it for under $30.... I mainly wanted to use it for my colt 6920 ar15 to keep as much residue off after a day at the range. But i also use it on my glock 19, sig 226, sig 1911 STX, rem 870, and moss 590. Let me tell you, the more i apply it for cleaning and maintanence after a day of shooting, the slicker and smoother my weapons are. Especially my glock. The glock is smooth as butter. And my AR15, is easy to wipe off and just as slick. You do need to use a blow dryer or other to warm the surface the first time you use it for the froglube to penetrate the metals or polymer of your weapons. From then on, i either use the paste or liquid to apply and wipe off. Best part is no oily or greasy hands, or oilly smell or mess when i clean/maintain my weapons. Im sold for life. |

Just started using froglube a couple of months ago and so far so good till a couple of weeks ago my buddy was over with a newly aquired used pistol ( a Smith&Wesson in 40cal)..We decided to break it down for the first time and found it to be in bad need of a cleaning-Bad need!! The most amazing thing about Froglube I've found so far is how it literally FLOATED away bad carbon buildup.. warm up the parts..Brush on the paste, it melts and just dissolves the grunge so you can just wipe it off. It smells good too!!

snake oil business. frog lube, like many other products, is eventually to be proven not so special. Sig TW25B grease never failed me. their engineer told my friend years ago that nothing tests better for my stainless in cold, heat, sand or saltwater. |

Have applied to everything from ARs, AKs and all guns in between. After several 1000s of rounds and through several carbine traning courses, the stuff just works.

Use Frog Lube on my carry for the past few months and I am very pleased at how it not only provides protection for the metal on metal friction but it also restores the nitron finish as if it were new again. And I haven't had or seen any problem with carbon residue as mentioned in a previous thread. I recommend it to all of my fellow gunsmen....JMO

After trying many [impossible to try all!] of the wonder lubes, as I shoot each gun, I clean from stem to stern with Hoppe's #9 and I am now using Mobil 1 motor oil for oil, and Mobil 1 grease for grease. Both are designed to protect metal from wear and corrosion, seem to be very good at their intended purpose, win hands down at the cash register. |
