I am a purist and don't understand the need to 'mod' something. If it wasn't what you wanted you should have bought something else. I do love the 10/22 and have been collecting them for 35yr and have over 40 of them. I can only think of 1 mod that I have done and that was a ventilated handguard, and that was on a new stainless with green laminated stock back in 1993 ....and regret my decision to do it. I still have that gun that has (IIRC) never been shot, in the original box with original accessories and paper work including receipt. Installing that hand guard cost me a couple hundred $$$ that devalued the gun as opposed to me leaving it alone.

To each their own. Have fun.

I like to make things my own. Most things I'll be changing will increase accuracy and reliability. Doing these things myself will increase my understanding of the 10/22.

^ ^ ^ Is that not the reason for buying a 10/22 ... So you can make it whatever you want it to be, something you can not buy in the first place? ^ ^ ^

I did extensive experimentation with bedding in order to improve accuracy and for constancy as it relates to POI with a cold or warm Ruger factory barrel.
I also gave it a trigger kit that provides a Very Crisp 2.5~3 lb pull with an overtravel adjustment and a 3-9 magnification scope that costs as much as the rifle.
With the addition of a sling my small game rifle was complete. I call it my "sleeper" because with the exception of the scope it looks factory bone stock.

As far as I know there is nothing else a guy could buy off the shelf that would give me what I have in this rifle.
These are Very minor mods compared to what most do with their 10/22s but it works for it's purpose, small game and plinking.

Funny to find this here. I purchased a 10/22 very recently and have everything in route to get it completed.

My list is as follows

Collectors Series 10/22 (only keeping receiver, and maybe rail. was the best deal locally)
Purple Haze High Gloss Thumb-hole stock
920 Fluted Stainless 18" Bull Barrel
Ruger BX Trigger
Ruger BX25 mag (Unsure if I like it, probably buy more rotors)
Nikon Prostaff Scope
Forget the brand but stainless scope rings

Picked up 1000 rounds as well. Haven't shot it and wont until it is completed. May end up getting a charging handle upgrade and an extended mag release. Spent more than I wanted but it should be an awesome plinker up to 100 yards or so.

I would recommend the EGW extended rail. The ruger one is short if you want any kind of eye relief.

The collectors series comes with an extended rail. I dont think it is any shorter than what you linked me. Unless of course I am mistaken. It comes over the receiver.

I've been a mod sorta person all my life. I find it hard to look at anything mechanical without asking myself, "how can I make that better?". It's darn near a sickness!! I have less than half a dozen guns in my safes that haven't been modified one way or lots of ways.

This "sickness" has no doubt sometimes bewildered my friends who put up with me anyway, cost me countless hours of frustration (it doesn't always work out as planned), has brought many more hours of joy, along with no small amount in patent royalties as well. I refuse to seek treatment and will go on mod'ing things!

Manufacturers DON'T always get it right the first time, or, they make concessions in the name of bottom line and other reasons too. What's not to mod?!

I put the Mist22 integrally suppressed barrel, Hogue over molded stock, BX trigger, Kidd buffer stop and leupold rim fire scope on mine.

10/22's are Cool.
My wife has a Hot Pink one. I have the SST Take Down and a 1980's Green, Orange, Gray Laminated.
You may want to pick up a Bore Guide to keep your New Toy Clean and Running.

Still good advice. I really cant wait for it to all be together. Now I just need a 100 yard range or land to shoot on... haha. Will probably end up going to one of many 25 yard indoor ranges to at least get some shots off.

Edit... it will be a lot different than the 10/22 I grew up shooting. It has been in the family since bought new in 1974.

Great Triggers

I bought a trigger from here. Its the best trigger I have ever had on any of my guns.
