Nice! what did you use? How did you color the lettering also?

I agree it does give it a better look. I polished the block / chamber end of my barrel also but didn't do the actual barrel so I could monitor how much wear/ smileys. What color paint did you use for the lettering. I used metallic silver on my 2022 and my wifes Bersa. You did a good job.

Thanks for the complements! I used 1000 grit sandpaper to start to get nitron coating off (comes off very easy) then buffed it out with dremel using polishing rouge then some fine buffing compound for a car on the last stage. For the lettering I tried a few colors of my wifes nail polish white, red, and silver metallic. The silver worked the best and it almost looks like the letters are etched in instead of painted. Put on the nail polish and worked it in with a qtip then put another coat and let it dry. Then I used a clean qtip with NON acetone nail polish remover and wiped away very gently. Went back and touched up here and there and re-oiled. That's it!

| I used a Dremel with the buffing wheel and rouge that came in my dremel kit. I lightly sanded the blueing off of mine before I polished it out to a shine. For the lettering I used a metallic silver nail polish and brushed over the letters and let it sit for a minute and then using paper towels and nail polish remover I wiped off the excess, carefully using a fresh piece of paper towel for each wipe until I removed it all except what was left in the lettering. So far it has held up to wiping the slide with Rem oil gun wipes when cleaning my guns. I haven't used any Hoppes solvent on that part of the slides so I don't know how it would hold up to that. You can search YouTube for a video with the keywords glock nail polish. Or you can check Siggybaby's post because he has a link to the video that I used. Hope this helped. I also cleaned the oil from the surface with rubbing alcohol before I started.

looks awesome. i did something similar to my 226. I had a buddy who worked for an electroplating shop. I gave him my barrel. He put rubber plugs on both ends, stripped it bare, polished it up, and gave it a very light but durable nickel coat. I have a shiny barrel too..! |

Alright, you talked me into it, I'm gonna polish my 226 barrel. Did you polish the whole thing, including the lug ?

I used silver nail polish like KennyG noted - took three applications, but it came out pretty good: ![]() I also polished the outside block of the barrel chamber. I don't have a dremel so used sandpaper and polishing wheels/rouge with my drill. It was very hard to get all the nitron finish off - much harder than I thought it would be. that's yellow reflection - it did polish up really nice. I think it would be neat to polish the slide lock and decocker levers, but can't imagine what it would take to get the nitron out of all those crevices, etc. |
