When I carry, I always have one in the chamber. That is how I practice/train, that is how I am comfortable. I understand why the argument exists, but for me personally, there is no question. To each his/her own. Its all about how you train and how you feel comfortable.

Why would your weapon discharge if dropped?

After reading the "presenters" opening statement, it seems to me he is saying that if you are not going to train be sure to carry with a round chambered. That seems rather a foolish point of view to me. I would argue that if you are not going to train you shouldn't be armed in the first place.

What gun are you carrying while running? Depending on the gun, it is very often the case that the gun cannot fire without a trigger pull.

What's the point in carrying if you're not going to have one in the chamber? You may not have the time to chamber one when you need to use your pistol. Or you may not have both hands available to chamber.

Why do you think cops carry with one in the chamber?

Huh? I think you've bought in to the Hollywood bullshit of guns just going off from being dropped. You're a lot more likely to be injured in a car accident than from a gun being dropped and firing.

hollywood? There has been issues in the past with guns being dropped and discharged. If I remember correctly there were recalls to a few guns because of this. My owners manual states this also.

Given to each his own. Thats why there is such a debate. I dont want to debate just commenting. I do go to profesional training 2 times a month and yes they teach me one in the chamber. I am slowly turning to the dark side. But when I run and have kids around me 24/7 I feel the need to not chamber. Not every senerio is 5 feet distance. There are many senerios that dont require 2 sec react times. thats why I train for many

Yeah, the chances are pretty low. I think all hammer fired guns could technically have a mechanical failure if they didn't have a functional firing pin block and could discharge. I'm thinking revolvers and old 1911s with steel firing pins. If dropped on the hammer, hammer notches could be broken, and could resultantly discharge. Damn low chance of it, though. Hell, most manufacturers state fairly clearly in the operator's manual that if you drop a gun, just let the damn thing hit the floor. You got a better chance of snagging the trigger and MAKING it go off inadvertently than it has of torching off by itself. I love it, though, when a Sig or Glock is dropped on TV and it torches off a round. Must have hit that floor pretty damn hard! LOL

Y'all are assuming that someone is most likely carrying a Sig or a Glock. A woman was horribly injured here in Houston last year when a gentleman dropped his Derringer-style pocket pistol in a restaurant. It can happen.

I always carry with a round in the chamber. But I also don't ever drop my gun. Once it leaves my person, it leaves my control...and that's unacceptable, chambered or not.

I would think it all depends on the style of gun. That is why most would have a carry gun etc. The 2022 has 10lbs of trigger pull needed to fire. They test drop them for that scenario.

I think Glock's 4th gen are not in Cali traditionally due to the cost of the drop testing. Yes, you can get one but with a work around. Via not auto, you gotta buy it with a fixed barrel, one shot conversion. You get all the parts and then return the conversion or perversion which ever way you see it. The 3rd gen model 17 is the same except for a double recoil spring and nicer sites, that the 4th gen has. Yet, testing keeps it off the shelf. I do not see how all that expensive testing and a pistol can still go off hitting the ground?

Like that kid who was shot by his dad, while dad was trying to sell his guns to a gun store in Smartsville PA. Yesterday.
How the heck do you pull the trigger on a gun accidentally while pointed at someone? First off what is your finger on the trigger for if you are not going to shoot? All guns are loaded, always.
Hey, I don't make the rules I just learn em as I go along. Back to carrying. I can't do that in Cali. This place is full of animals and freeway shootings and they just outlawed open carry as of the 1st. Crazy place where the responsible and law abiding are stripped of protection and lumped in with criminals. You think the cops would look the other way if they come across you. IE: Loaded gun in the car. NOWAY-off to jail you go. Never figured out how a guy with an American flag on their costume who swears to hold up the constitution walks all over it via enforcing erroneous laws and illegal searches. /rant> Back to topic. One in the Pipe with safety on, or having to pull the hammer back D/A. IMO.

Yeah, good point. Still some pistols out there with just floating pins or no pin safety whatsoever.
