Perps wearing body armor.

Last week, two people I know (co-workers/friends of my next door neighbor) were victims of home invasion. Two perps, a male and a female, kicked in their front door and robbed them at gunpoint. The perps were wearing body armor. So, my tactical related question is do y'all practice shooting higher up as well as COM?

Here's why.

Did this even make the news? Was this a random attack or were the victims "known" to the attackers. So I have to figure the attackers wore the BA because they suspected the intended victims were armed?

I practice to hit where I'm aiming. The situation will determine the specifics of where that will be.

I didn't go into a whole lot of detail because when I do I tend to write a book. Whether or not it made the local news I do not know because I pay no attention to it. The print and television media here are hopelessly liberally biased. I have a good relationship with local LE and speak with them regularly. That's where I get the real story.

The victims claim the perps were unknown to them. The victims are illegal alien Mexican nationals. It seems that they are targets because many of them don't use banks, live on a cash basis and typically have more cash than the average person. The perps were negros and interrestingly made no attempt to hide their identities. Given the chance that robbing illegals could involve drug gang members, I'd wear body armor too.

I've been a bullseye shooter for a long time but am new to the defensive side. I've always heard COM, but it makes sense to train for other contingencies.

If you ever find yourself under attack by islamic extremists you better being shooting somewhere other than COM because of the likelihood of suicide vests.

One of the reasons I am so reluctant to go with the so called "combat" sighting is because I want to clearly see the target unobscured with the sights. The 6 o'clock sight pattern allows me far better shot placement. The only time I want to use any other visual is with a scope with crosshairs, and now with the newer rifles sights. Bullet placement is critical, and COM is not always the place to go for. I admit to having been trained old school.
Today, if I aim for your nose, I usually am within 2 inches. That usually is enough.

The book should be an interesting read. So the victims were targets of opportunity, probably watched for awhile, the attackers wore protective BA, so they must have money, no one shot or killed, could they be teenagers?

I practice using rapid three shots (.45 JHP) COM, wondering if hitting the BA wearer would incapacitate them in any way?

NOTE: I have no interest in wearing BA and having someone shoot me just to find out...LOL

Training, training, training. First shot should be somewhere that is going to at least slow someone down. If I can tell your wearing a vest, Im aiming for the head. Who am I kidding.. Id aim for the head anyway.

This reminds me that I need a vest.

Sounds like they might need a better front door, too.

If you can get a chance and the perp is wearing the type of vest that SWAT teams wear, try to knock them over. It's pretty funny to watch them try to get back up if they haven't trained for it. Looks kinda like a turtle on its back since the tactical vests weigh so much.
