I started tinkering with building 1911's last year. I ordered a sarco builders kit and dug up a Fosters (Caspian Blemish) frame to complete the kit. It went together quite nicely. It passed all of my firing and function tests so its been time to put some sort of finish on it for a while. Well I finally got around to it. I cheated per say. I got some high temp engine paint and put 3 coats on it and baked it @ 275 for 1.5 hours. The majority of it came out great and so far it seems pretty tough. I really like the color that it ended up being. the pictures do not do it justice. I will update it when I attempt to fix the finish haha. (problem described below)

The last image here shows some of my mishap. Sometime during the cooking process it developed some bubble looking crap in the finish. It seemed to only do it on the side facing down. Not sure If I should have let it dry longer before placing it in the oven or what. Its only noticable in the right light. I'm thinking of sanding and respraying it. It may have been uneven heat in the toaster oven I was using, I have no idea.

Looks pretty good Drew. I'm interested to see how it holds up.

Make a stand, and put it on the stand, so both sides are even distance from the heat surface, should help prevent bubbling.

I made a noob mistake, I didn't get the rails taped up well at all. Well refitting the rails is no fun. I am finding out that it does not come off very easy. And repeated whacks with a plastic hammer do not seem to phase it at all.

Anyways I sanded the bad spots back down and resprayed it on the affected side. Baked it again and re-assembled it. This is what it looks like currently. I still need to do some final slide fitment. I think the stinkin slide has some in it still. Oh well good learning experience I suppose. I don't like those plastic grips, I ordered some cocobolo grips for it. They should be in soon. I'll take more pics when they come in.

I have to get something to finish the sight markings and it should be pretty much complete. I put the new grips on it. I have to take some pics later today and I'll post em up.

Ok, I finally got around to getting it back in working order and got my new cocobolo grips put on. I still have to figure out how I am going to put some white dots on the sights to make them more visible. Anyways on with the pics!

Nice. Now open that catalog and order a real gun! Just kidding, 1911's are good and all, but you still need a SIG!
