Legion 229 or M9A3???

Wandering about these two. I already own a Legion P226 SAO i really would like a matched set with the P229 but then again its basically what i already have. So considering the M9A3 as something different.

Welcome!

I have the 226 SAO and have to lean towards the M9A3 as its always fun to have something a little different.

If you love the 226 though sure you will love the 229.

yea i agree. sorta my thoughts then again my OCD kicks in and im considering doing a SIG Legion 226, 229 and eventaully i hope the 220. But they all shoot so similar. Have thought about grabbing a P320 to have as a range toy, slash maybe competition gun eventually.

I had the same conundrum back in April, except I didn't already have Legion. I picked the Legion over the M9A3 and would do it again in a heartbeat. I would say stick with the Sig and get the little brother. I decided if I was going to pay that much extra for the M9, I may as well get a Sig. Not much difference in price in my local area and no body in MD is transfer friendly.

I would love a good CZ as well but you CAN NOT find them. Ive tried everywhere. The only one i can source locally is a CZ Shadow Target 2 and your talking 1650 bucks and i can buy a legion around 1079.

rennocneb, for starts, are you looking for a 9mm, and DA/SA operation? You say you have a 226 Legion SAO, which I'm again guessing is 9mm, since you seem to look at .40 S&W with disdain.
Are you looking for something to carry, or just to shoot? Are you looking for "Flash" or "Substance"?

not looking down my nose at 40, just dont see the need for it. Its a high pressure round that has more flip, and beats up guns more. A good 9mm round is good for defense. Mainly this gun will be a range toy. I want a nice shooting gun, or a pair if i can squeeze them into the 1750 or so budget. My current legion is a 9mm i think the SAO is only available in 9mm. As far as action type, i really dont care the Legion p229 is only available in da/sa and i do like that if i would ever carry it.

I completely and totally disagree.

As to 40 beating up guns? If the gun is properly designed for 40, as is the P229, then that's a frivolous concern - - maybe should recall all the 10mm's out there.

The 40 isn't dying or going away, while it's use will obviously decrease with the LE switch to 9. And while 40 won't ever be as popular as 9mm, neither will the 45 for that matter, and nobody is claiming the 45 is dying or fretting that it's beating up guns.

The FBI dumped the 9 'cause it's efficacy was apparently lacking in the '85 FL shootout. They went to 10mm and quickly wimped out, downloading the 10 for less recoil. Then switched to the 40 as it was roughly the same as the downloaded 10mm. Some of their more diminutive agents had difficulty with even the 40, so now it's back to 9mm, albeit with improved projectile design. Many LE organizations do the me-too thing, following the FBI. I know cops who are sorry they have to give up the 40 for the 9.

I'm ex-Oakland PD. I carry a 9mm (P938) when I have to, and a P229 40 most all of the time. I'm getting up there, 72, and have no problems shooting the 40. My P229 eats it up and doesn't beat itself or me up in the process.

i shoot stuff way hotter than 40 quite often its not recoil. I just dont see the need for the round. 9mm +p with good projectiles is gonna stop a man just as good. Its cheaper and guns can be smaller and lighter. The 45acp while i love my 1911s that rounds a dinosaur. I shoot a lot of rifles to, 300 win mag fairly often so not real muzzle blast or recoil sensitive.

I vote variety but not necessarily the M9A3, it would be a great choice but since you have a very nice full size already I'd be looking at a compact of some sort. CZ P01 or PCR, maybe a Beretta 92 compact. Another cool option would be a 1911.
