My wife made me buy her a Taurus pt 738. I brought it home and loaded it with some JHP's and the bullets hang up and won't chamber properly. Could this be because its new and there are burrs on the chamber or is it the flat face of the JHP's . Haven't got the chance to run back to the store to get some FMJ's and see if I get the same results. Afraid to go fire it with this glitch. Have anyone else had this problem with this particular model. Oh by the way its pink! (she says lavender). |

I would try shooting it with FMJ's. If FMJ shoots okay then I would try JHP. If you encounter a malfunction with the JHP, try other brands of JHP...

You may have to polish the feed ramp down. For something that small I would consider using something like a Corbon Powerball that will feed better. I had the same issues with my Diamondback DB9 (among a host of other problems) But feeding HP issues with these small pistols are not uncommon.... THATS WHY I SOLD MY DB9 AND GOT THE SIG 290... several hundred rounds later no misfeads or malfunctions of any ammo. |

Thanks for the replies, but after manually cycling the bullets thru the gun it chambers now. I guess i wore down the burrs (if any) that were there. Due to time of night i havent fired it yet. Will pick up some FMJ's and run thru those first. |

UPDATE: My local Walmart has been low on ammo of the most popular calibers since they have opened an indoor gun range in my area. Been unsuccessful in finding FMJ for the .380 without having to travel 20+ miles to the nearest Academy for some. Decided to go ahead and try the Monarch brand JHP's I picked up when I purchased the gun and expended 18 rounds thru it with no malfunctions. Would have gone thru the whole 50 but needed to save some so my wife will have them if needed. Plan to make the trip to the Academy and see what other types of target ammo they have in stock. Going to wait and see if ammunition to go . com puts some home defense grade on sale. So far this little TaurusTCP is not a bad little gun. (it aint no SIG) I find it easy to disassemble and clean dispite the "nail" they use for holding the slide on. |
