Saint...Colt...Bcm

I have been reading the various threads regarding AR-15 choices. I'm looking for something light like The Saint, Colt LE6960 CCU or BCM Recce 16 KMR-A. I realize the later two are in a higher league. At one time I was interested in a DDM4V11 until I saw a video where it was dropped on its side from five feet and suffered some problems.

I found the BCM for $1299 without sights. Gunbroker lists the Colt for $1197. My LGS has The Saint on sale for $699. I don't mind paying for the higher priced rifles, however, I'm looking at buying three. I prefer to buy all three the same. Obviously, I can buy two Saints for the price of one of the others.

So, if your life depended upon any of the above rifles, which one would you choose and why? Btw, the rifle is going to be used primarily for HD. All I care about is the quality of components and dependability.

I appreciate your thoughts.

I would trust my life with any rifle that had proved itself with hundreds of rounds of my chosen defensive ammo. With that said, I'd pick either the BCM or the Colt. I've got rifles built with BCM components. The last complete rifle I bought was a Colt 6920.

Good advice bblr. I have called around to all my LGS and no one carries the Colt or BCM. I have even called a few stores in another city. Ideally, I would like to handle both before I bought one.

I went with the Colt LE 6920 SOCOM. It it was good enough for Our troops and recommended by a Iraq Vet it was good enough for Me.

Colt or BCM. I'm grabbing another spare in the next couple months. I'll probably get the Colt LE6920 OEM1, at around $700, it's a no brainer. I already have the furniture laying around for it.

I know one local LEO who uses the SAINT on patrol, and he swears by it. It has great reviews. My LGS sells them for $899, so I'd snatch a couple up at that price. That said, I have my eye on a Colt LE6920. I have it on good authority the price is going to drop on them soon. FWIW

Colt is the baseline of a working AR-15. And by that I mean something the will be used and abused. Not a range toy/nightstand gun. While I think Colt has been resting on it's laurels the last decade or more, and their corporate decision making is going to cause them to eventually close their doors, the 6920 is still a good weapon.

A few years ago I bought a BCM 14.5" (pinned A2X FH) SOCOM upper and the local LGS has complete BCM lowers. Yeah, I know I could have saved a few buck with a cheap lower and LPG, but this weapon is that, not a range toy. And I am happy with it. I plan on getting a stamp of the lower and building a Mk18mod1 inspired upper using mostly BCM parts.

The SAINT has me worried. The first batches had problems. A few people commented they but BCM's furniture on a poorly assembled AR, and the parts were not to the Colt baseline. Maybe they improved their QC, but I think their are better brands out there.

Savage too? As far as I can tell Henry and High Point are the only two gun makers NOT making ARs.* Yet.

*for this statement I conclude if one company in a corporation make ARs, then the other companies don't need to. Example FN makes ARs, so Winchester and Browning don't need to.

Been into shooting for over 45 years now and have a nice collecting of firearms including several AR15's. About 2 weeks ago I handled my first Springfield Saint, was so impressed with it's quality and feel, that the next day I bought one. Have to admit that I have not had the opportunity to shoot it yet, but after detail stripping and a through cleaning, the Saint is a beautifully made rifle and well worth the cost. Also picked up a Romeo 5 red dot sight to mount on my Saint. Carefully read the Saint's Specs before deciding on a new AR15. Range report to follow next week.

CodeSection Why not build an AR15 using the parts you want and you can build a lighter than 6lb 13oz AR15 the saint is and get it the way you want it .

I built mine . I have the same kind of money in it you could spend on a saint and mines not that light at 6lb 4oz . Started with blem Aero Precicion upper and lower, mid weight 16"chrome bore criterion barrel its capable of sub moa with 55gr FMJ wolf gold and with folding sights . .600 with federal GM 68gr with a 2.5-10x42 Nikon ps7 scope and mount it weight in at 7lb 14oz . Not a lite scope .

M&Psport II weight the same as a saint and with a $739 retail cost and a good rifle . Street price closer to 600 bucks and is a good quality AR .

What am I missing, this is a SIG site and no one recommended a SIG AR style rifle.I have a 516 and love it, and would take it to war without a second thought if a lightweight rifle would suffice for the mission. I also have a M1A1 SOCOM 16 and a SCAR 17s for heavy duty longer range work.
