| Range Report for my Springfield Armory 9mm 1911
Want to keep this objective. I made a trip to the range to get familiar with my new addition. I took along some UMC 115 HP and some 115gr ball reloads. I was anxious to see how the grip would feel as my 45 1911 has a bobtail cut. The bottom corner of the MSH seemed to be a bit sharp and I wondered how it would feel while shooting. Happy to say I did not feel it one time while shooting, so at this point it's a non issue. I really like how it feels while shooting, very little recoil as the weight of the all stainless construction soaks it right up. While shooting: First, I shot the UMC 115 hp loads. I had a few FTF's in the first 100 rounds But I attribute that to break in. I did notice that the slide, though smooth on the rails, seemed to move back into battery a bit slower than I would have expected. The FTF's I did have were associated with not returning fully to battery. A small push on the back of the slide and it popped into position. Next came the reloads. While, in general, they shot very similarly to the UMC, I did have more FTF's. These, though, were apparently caused by the ammo. The slide would not got into battery as before but would not respond to a slight push on the back of the slide. Examining the ammo in question, I found that there was a slight ridge where the bullet was seated into the case. On this ridge there was a burr that I could catch my nail in. I had experienced a similar issue with shooting reloaded 9mm in my BarSto equipped 226 Equinox. It's as if the chamber tolerances are a bit tighter than other barrels. I'm just guessing that the match BarSto barrel in my 226 and the match barrel in the Springfield are dimensionally tighter and more apt to have small variances be troublesome. Right now I may need to check out my reloading set up, possibly invest in some new dies. I'm not yet at a point where I am going to take it up with Springfield. I have more shooting and trying different ammo, could be just one of those compatibility things. I do love the way it shoots, It did a great job of removing the target centers at 25ft. I'm sure if my mind wasn't focused on a possible FTF, I would have done even better. The gun is capable! After shooting, I came home and grabbed a few more pictures. Lovely gun. As blasphemous as this may be, I'd rather have a Springfield 1911 over a Sig 1911 because I don't care for the checkering/stipling on the front edge of the grip on the Sigs.

Back at the range tonight. This time I carried Winchester and Blazer Brass. 150 flawless rounds on target. These were then follwed by two 10 round mags of the very reloads that were giving me trouble the other day. This pistol is turning into quite a shooter.

I really like Springfields in the 1911 world. I like the one you got as well. A while ago I gun a standard parkerized compact. I liked it so much I traded up for a stainless ported ultra compact that I could 'trick out'. here she be |
