I've never owned one or even shot one so I guess that I'm just neutral on them. I would expect that would change when I do get the opportunity to shoot one.

What I don't understand is why I don't hear the complaints about the grip safety on 1911's. I own an XD-40c and hear all of the complaints all of the time about the grip safety on them. This usually comes from Glock fanatics. As far as I'm concerned the grip safety on my XD is a non-issue. I never even notice it. I've just assumed that these G people are threatened by the way the XD is gaining in popularity and are really only trying to discredit the Glocks primary competitor.

Are the grip safeties vastly better on 1911's than the ones that the XD's have?

Corey, that sure was a great looking gun!

Don't remind me.

There is zero reason to complain about the grip safety on the 1911, it's part of what makes it a 1911. I've never shot an XD but I can't imagine it could be a negative experience due to the grip safety.

I have 1911's and XD's as well, Never had a issue with the grip safety on either one. The only drawback I can think of to the XD's grip safety is that it's much smaller than a 1911's grip safety and might not engage as well with someone who isn't familiar with the gun.

As far as "G" people . . . cheap people like cheap guns, that's by and far the only reason that people like them

I love the 1911 style 45's...
  • The safety features
  • Carrying "cocked and locked"
  • Single action trigger pull
  • Customizable
  • 45 ACP

I like alot of things in handguns, but I can definitely say that I love the 1911. Count me twice on this one.

The 1911 platform has grown much like the AR has.

With these 2 you can almost build or buy a gun the fits most any need or want.

Absolutely love the M1911 and all of its variants. I like the Wilson's and Springfield Tactical models but I think the SIG TAC-OP has to be my dream gun at the moment.

How sexy is that:

I have not had any range time with one but I have handled several. There basically like handling a full on custom 1911 and I can't wait ta get mine.

I just have one. I do enjoy shooting the 1911 platform but will generally spend more time with my Sigs.

I love the 1911. Overall the best trigger action as it moves straight back into your hand and doesn't pivot like most other handguns. I guess my On-Line Name on other forums says it all though.

I've never cared for 1911s before, but when I found a great deal on a Sig GSR XO I couldn't resist. I'll be purchasing that in a month or so.

My father-in-law is a huge 1911 fan. He has an original U.S. Army issue circa WW II that he has let me disassemble clean (but not fire!), and quite a few impressive and expensive 1911s. I've posted some of them in the "Other Firearms" picture thread.

Probably the most extravagant is a custom Les Bauer with a Briley barrel and compensator - valued around $3,000. The trigger is so sensitive that it surprised me every single time, so I grouped 8 shots within a quarter inch at 15 yards.

Unfortunately, I've got the Strider bug about as bad as the Sig bug.
