Bowling pins

Just picked up a few bowling pins at a local shop. As I was driving home, the light bulb came on: I have a friend who works at a bowling alley.

I called him to see what they do to dispose of old pins. "Throw 'em out"

I asked if I cold buy - or have - some next time they cull the herd. "What for?"

I told him that I wanted them for target practice.

He said "no problem" but told me that the boxes they come in say "Do not use plastic coated pins for target practice. Ricochet danger" or something to that effect. He said he'd let me know when they do and I can just put on my dumpster diving suit.

Any experience with this out there? Is this a real danger or is it just lawyer spew on the box?

Not gonna shoot 'em at 15 feet or anything like that. I was thinking 15-25 yards for handgun.
