My first centerfire handgun was a revolver... A Colt King Cobra... I remember when I went to buy the Colt, my buddy told me to get the Python instead. I couldn't justify spending the extra money for the Python (I think it was $300 more). Hind sight tells me I should have listened to him. Since then, I purchased a few more revolvers, but for some reason I shoot autos better than revolvers, with the exception of S&W autos. I could not hit the side of a barn with any S&W autos that I have shot...

I have a soft spot for wheel guns because that's what I was raised on, they are mechanically more simple and more reliable in general; I like that. I've shot and still shoot quite a few. Mostly a Raging Bull .44 mag. I went shootin today and a gentleman there let me shoot his Ruger, .22 LR. I'm not sure what model, it was a single action. Shot well, I liked the feel of it a lot. The Python is my favorite all time design of revolver, but I can't afford one, not right now at least.

I love my S&W 686. I don't ever carry it but I love to shoot it whenever I find the time to get to the range. I thought about selling it at one time and then it was stolen but since I was fortunate enough to get it back it won't be going anywhere.

I have a S&W 629 Classic with a 6.5" barrel. Got it because I used to deer hunt in an area with a significant black bear population. Haven't carried it hunting much this year because it needs to see a gunsmith...the cylinder release isn't releasing the cylinder like it should. It's a great shooting piece though, and I wouldn't part with it.

| I too have a soft spot for wheel guns. It’s the first type of handgun I trained on when I was in law enforcement for 3 years in my mid-20’s. Carried a Colt trooper and Dan Wesson .357 mag. Still wish I had both of those guns. Currently my main carry is a Sig 239 9mm, but my BUG is an S&W 340PD 357 mag. It’s a great wheel gun to carry, but painful to shoot more than 10-15 rounds. As the cliché goes, “carry it a lot, shoot it a little”. Also own S&W 649 and 686 .357 mag, 642 .38 and Performance Center .500 mag. My hunting guide put the final round into a charging bear with my S&W 649. I had managed to piss the bear off with my .500 mag. My .500 mag malfunctioned after I had liquefied its lungs with my second shot. With the bear charging and me trying to figure out the problem with my gun, my guide unloaded the .357 mag with the last shot, barrel practically touching fur, went into the brain box. Thankfully, I had handed my 649 to the guide just before I decided to take the bear or we could have ended up in a wrestling match. |

I have a soft spot for my Colt King Cobra. It was my first center handgun. About all I have done to it was to give it a trigger job and change the factory Pachmayr Gripper grips to some Hogue wood grips. I recently purchased a 6 inch GP100. I thought the longer sight radius would help my revolver marksmanship, but it only improved it a little bit. I think I'll stick to pistols.

Raised on them as it was the only pistol type my father thought was worth his money. I used to hunt with them but gave up hunting 13 years ago, too many hobbies! I have a couple .38s but I love my .357mag snubby most, that little cannon always puts a smile on my face. Its no longer my 1st choice for carry . However, I do enjoy shooting it in my shop & Garage using speer Gallery rounds durring the winter. I bobbed the hammer spur on this one for more of a snag free draw from my coat pocket. ![]() |
