| 226 combat or 229 scorpion
Hey everyone I'm new to the forum, but i have a question for y'all sig lovers. I'm about to purchase a new gun and the ones that really have my eye are the 226 combat and the 229 scorpion. My local gunshop has both and I have held and messed with both, but just cant figure out which one I like more. Any thoughts or comments about either would be helpful. Thanks

Most importantly, choose the one that fits your hand the best. It does not matter what you read here, the one that feels the best to you will be the easier and better shooter. Both are capable pistols. Welcome to the forum from Pennsylvania. Last edited by Reliable; 04-07-2012 at 11:13 AM. |

Reliable offers good advice. Go with what fits you. For me, it is the 226 since it feels like it was custom made for my hand, but everyone is different.

if they both feel great get both!!! I have a 226 in 9mm and a 229 in .40. Because the 229 has a .40 cal frame it is a bit wider. it if funny the smaller gun has a bigger grip. Other than just having a great Sig, what are you looking for in a new gun? |

I think only you can answer your own question... If it were me, I would be asking myself which one should I buy first... I would probably go by feel... which feels better in my hand.

I personally would get the P229 Scorpion! I love the 229 size and feel, and have had my eye on a Scorpion for a while now, and they are not always available. The 226 you are looking are easy to get. JMHO of course..Look at my Avatar!! |

Id say its a wash. They are both awesome pistols, so it just comes down to personal preference and intended use.

I also had that problem, I ended up getting the 229 Scorpion in .40 because I liked how it fit my hand and I could put a .357 Sig barrel in it, which is what I wanted. Then I bought a 226 Tacops in 9mm, it fit good, and I wanted a good solid 9 mm. I then went with a 220 Match Elite because I liked it better than my 1911 so it went and got the Sig. Now I have a 239 in .357 Sig for my CCW. You see it's not what you get, but which one you get first. ![]() Steve |

Just to echo what some of the others have already stated. I would think it would be based on what would fit you the best. If the weapon fits your hand and the caliber is fine to your taste, then JUMP! Get yourself that Sig brother!!!

| yep. I've fired pistols for 30+ years. first the 1911s from the navy, then the M9 Beretta, which i truly enjoyed firing. then i picked up the Sig 229. I swear she sang to me. I didn't but the one at the LGS, but i found a friend who parted with theirs for $400. sure she's been around the block and a little abused, but i took it home stripped it down and she is bang on better than the 1911 I have with a longer barrel.

Hmm,a loaded question.Sort of like asking which are better girlfriends, blonds or redheads.Go with the one that feels the best. If it is not comfortable you will not shoot as well and both are fine pistols.

You have gotten some very good advise here thus far. You say they both fit you perfectly so that's not an issue, next what are you going to use it for, a range gun, home defense, conceal carry, answer that and you can start to narrow it down further. Then ask yourself caliber, which can you shoot and handle the best. the best caliber is the one you can shoot and handle the best. This is only my opinion, if It was a range gun or home defense I would go 226 if its for conceal carry 229, although I have conceal carried both before. It still comes down to what you are most comfortable with and which one you shoot better. that's the one you choose.

haven't had any experience with the 229 but I got the threaded barrel model for my Tacops and it gives it the same top end look as the 226 scorpion you just have to figure out which one you wanna snatch up first and then stack some pennies to go pick up the other! | |
