About 6 months ago I was looking into a set up for the range. A way to safely transport 4 pistols & ammo from my house to vehical to firing line.

This is what I came up with after not finding anything at a reasonable price.

Anyone else use a converted tool box as a range box? What do you use?

I made the inserts out of plywood covered in 2mm adheasive foam to protect the pistols and separate them from the ammo.

I had this set up at the Sig Shoot here in Ohio this past October.

Box & materials....$ 25.00

Nice toolbox setup. Before my bag from Midway I had a much less elegant tackle box conversion, ha. Basically bought one for under ten bucks, ripped out the insides, and put ammo and such inside... Ha

Very nice GB... In California, when going to and from the range, the unloaded guns must be kept separate from the ammo, and in a locked storage container.

What a joke. It must be incredibly hard to stay there as a firearms enthusiast.

I love the dividers. Nice work!

My range bag is currently a canvas carrying case that came with a Black and Decker circular saw.

That really looks nice. Do you have any plans for building another. I've been using tool boxes but not anywhere as nice as your. What materials did you use. Really great job!

Yes it is... But its home. The November election results in California pretty much summed it up. While the majority of the country had the conservative Republicans defeating the Democrats, in California it was the exact opposite. I'm too old to start a new life in another State, but I'm too young to retire and move. Hopefully, the next four years will go by quickly, and the Californians finally sees the light.

I like it. What ever happened to Waller Range bags? I remember back in the day you had to have a Waller.

Well I found the next range bag project! It was more than I was thinking I'd spend but given that I make the inserts removeable, if I want to use the box for something else I can as I haven't destroyed or permanently altered it.

I dropped the 4 pistol rack from my other range box to see if it would fit....looks like this box is going to work.

Nice, I Like that too.

I had a few PELICAN cases over the years and they are really nice, a little pricey tho.

I've got a total of $40 in this new one , finished.

Its done, I just waiting for everything to dry before posting pix.

This one has a shoulder strap which is nice and its metal.

I have a couple of plastic coated steel cables that are attached to the seats frame in my truck.

One is for the Gun Lock Box and the other one is for this.

Running the cable through the straps on my nylon bag can easily have the straps cut but someone will have to beat the cable and lock off this to remove it from the truck.

I'm hoping the smash & grab types aren't prepaired for that as I don't tend to spend much if any time with my equipt. just sitting in my truck. But after the Sig Shoot here in Ohio this past Oct. we all stopped at a restaraunt for some chow and there was a lot of money sitting out in that parking lot and that got me to thinking about how I could make something a little more secure.

If nothing else they'll have to work a little bit for it! Nothing is truely theft proof.

I'll get the Pics of the new box posted tonight!

Forgot to post an update on this project.

So here it is done!

Like the 1st one I threw together this one holds 4 Sigs but this one is able to hold 650rds( pictured ). I may be able to squeeze in another 50rds.

Turns out to have cost me $60 ( instead of $40 ) for the Box , Shipping and Materials( minus the wood ) but it was fun making them.

I added a layer of foam padding to the bottom of the tray so the mags wont scratch or pickup any paint.

The last of the 5 boxes that I'm making are complete ! !

TSig & KJfeldman Glad you like yours & thanks for ordering.

KJfeldman your 2nd one & hud35500 yours are both ready to ship!

Time for me to get back to finishing up my Garage cabinet doors!

I removed the pockets inside the box, they were getting in the way!

Mine says Craftsman on the side, it's the cordura bag that came with my drill. It has plenty of pockets for mags and tools. Ammo is in a separate bag. I also use Under Armor baseball bat bags for my rifles. I don't want to give the neighbors an insight to what I have.
