I was checking out a Century Arms AK the other day. Really nice furniture, smooth trigger (creepy, but not gritty at all), rail on top for optics, and excellent finish overall. It was $600-$650 I wanna say.

From my understanding, most brands of ak's feed very well, shoot decent, looks more or less all the same with the exception of perhaps different stocks. Afterall, it is an ak. I wanted one just to say I have it, but that thought quickly evaporated once I finially shot one. Just plain primitive. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine weapon and extremely affordable to shoot and the price of an ak is exceptional...uh oh, I'm talking myself into one again Good luck with your purchase! Are you going to Green Top?

I think I dropped about $500 on my AKMS (Polish AK with underfolder stock) after hating, HATING, the Zastava PAP that I shouldn't have bought...got rid of that...

Anyway, put about $300 in rails on it and some US Palm goodies, etc. Sold my really sweet AR a coupla weeks ago to get some more Sigs. Will never sell the AK. It is smooth and accurate. Has all the tacti - coolness of an AR, cheaper to shoot and the 7.62 is one helluva round. Cheap too!

Yeah, fairly certain the Century is the WASR from Romania. Trigger is generally U.S.-installed Tapco, as I understand it. Mine's not bad at all.

There seem to be two or three beefs about the Century/WASR:
(1) No dimples on receiver, sloppily opened post-ban mag well and and resultant mag rattle. I have not had a problem with it. I think the ones built after a certain year don't even show the problem.
(2) Front sight alignment. Sight said to be canted fairly often. Mine didn't show it. But adjusting that is not difficult.
(3) Tapco's mags don't fit some WASRs. They are a little thick on the rear for the WASR mag well, IME. About 10 minutes (max) work with a sanding wheel on a Dremel did it for me. Sand a little, recheck fit, repeat as needed. For $11 mags, they're OK. Plenty of surplus steel to be had, too.

I got everything but the cleaning rod (bayonet, pouches, oiler bottle, cleaning kit, sling) with mine. Only things I use from that group: sling and cleaning kit. I can grab an AK cleaning rod off eBay if so moved. So far, I haven't been.

For $650, it's been dandy.

I know this is a bit old and you may have already made your AK purchase, but I have a M&M in 7.62x39 and am pretty happy with it. About $500. I think they are Romanian AK's that M&M imports. Has a decent tapco trigger and quad rail on it already. I didn't get a chance to put any other sights/optics on it other than the factory RPK sights, but it seems pretty accurate IMO compared to AK's I have shot in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I have not shot one, but I was at a a local gun shop yesterday and they had just gotten one in. A man and his sons were looking at it and bought it. I didn't get to handle it but it really looked nice. Looked well made and complete. It was one of the best packaged rifles I've seen. Have you taken it to the range yet? Tell us about it.

I love my Saiga 762.39. I use it stock on the 100yd range w/barrel sights and it's great fun and accurate as hell.
