| AK-47 owners tune in
So I am in the market for a AK-47 type rifle while I can still get one... If any of you are knowledgeable on specific companies or favor a certain one, please by all means share ![]() I wouldn't want to spend more than $800 because I could start another build on a AR for anything over that... |

Sirsigalot here: What's going fam, nice to hear ur looking at trying to get an ak47 if had to give you some advice it would be to get an 1. Arsenal ak47 (Russian/US made) 2.US all made ak47 Imports are ok but when buying an import you can face problems like Tronion pro, mags pro,to much wobble pro etc. Here's my #850) 214-6438 for more info. |

+1 For the Arsenal. Had A SLR-107 which is the same as a SGL21 except it has the folding "stock" buttstock.

| I have one of the older SLR95 which is milled and it is very accurate. I also have and AR type 7.62x39 and they are neck in neck in accuracy. The AR does have less a bit less recoil flip and is lighter though.

Nutnfancy on youtube has an Arsenal AK-variant that he swears by. SGL-something, search for it.

+1 on the Arsenal AK's (either the SLR's or the Saiga's) For your budget, you could get a nice Chinese Mak 90. They are some of the best AK's ever made.

Thanks to all the responses. I went to a local gun shop here in Richmond and checked out the Arsenal AK, I really liked it and think I may be picking it up.

| One more to add is the VEPR AK. It is a bit heavier but I have seen a lot of good reviews. It is going for about 499 on the web. I purchased the VEPR 308 and should have it in a few days.

Bought 2 sporter Saigas for a total of 425.00, Changed them to a more tactical type of rifle and made them 922r compliant. The total was 825.00(including optics!) for the two when completed, one is chambered in 7.62x39 the other in 5.56/223. The sporter has gone up in price considerably, but they do go down in price when importers bring in large amounts, but most are now available for 380-400 price range now.Although not a tack driver, but a reliable battle rifle one cant deny.Being a piston gun and having a cold hammered forged chrome lined barrel I find they clean up easily and are durable. The available steel cased ammo is very affordable and occasionally run some decent brass loads thru both of them with good results in 1.5 -2.0 MOA @100 yrds and enjoy that they have decent FCG's in them now instead of the military groups they came with. From what I read they are original AK's being produced at the Ismash armory who produces the arms for the Russian Army.By no means a pretty gun ,or made in a manner with forged receivers such as most AR's,but a simple design that requires very little to keep it reliable. For the price, I found the Saigas to be a decent deal and a fun rifle to deploy for a multitude of situations.

The Aresenal is nice; wished I'd seen one near me. I did pick up a WASR for $650 and must have got one of the "good" ones. Wasn't terribly worried, the guy I bought it from is retired USMC and a good armorer. He said he'd make it right if I had any problems. Thing's humming right along. Putting 'em where I'm looking. Using Asian mil-surplus mags, or the Tapco's. Initial fit on the Tapco's sucked out load. As in wouldn't insert. Buddy of mine showed me how to correct it. They're feeding fine now. They're $11, and for that I'll go through a tweak or two on my own time. The AK will never be the AR, but it's interesting in its own right. If nothing else, cheap to acquire, cheap to feed, easy to maintain and will run on forever. |

Umm, Is this a Sig forum? Its pricey but a tank, the Sig 556r or the 516r(urban legend?) Both shoot the 7.62x39 and are Sig tough. I own the 556r and have shot 2 others of them and I am very happy. Eats cheap russian steel ammo like a pez dispenser on steroids. Will give you pause to go back to an AR platform and the Nitro carburized barrel(say its 2-3x times as strong as chrome lined cause its done in a heated process to the metal and not a coating applied) make it something to look at. Bad name was from first run, the post 2011 runs are great rifles.

On a side note, my Polish AK is awesome and I'd put it up against any AR in accuracy...more reliable as well. Vickers just did a debunking episode on his TAC TV show. Check it out, really interesting. | |
