I saw a poll for someone else getting a new pistol, but I'd like to pick your brains about my new EDC option. For the summer/warmer days, my SP2022 is, unfortunately, just a bit too large. I want to shoot for something in the subcompact range that I could potentially just throw in a pocket if need be. The options above are what I've narrowed them down to... Feel free to suggest others. I don't mind DAO triggers for this application, and I'm not biased against smaller revolvers, including .44 Special caliber.

My 2 suggestions aren't on your list, but I have had good experience with both. They would be a Sig p290 and S&W Bodyguard 380. I had the BG and really liked it, but decided to go with the p290 due to the fact it's in 9mm and not much bigger. Also I would advoid the Ruger LC9. While I haven't had any personal experiences, but I did have a discussion with a certain individual that told me that the lc9 was the biggest piece of junk Ruger has ever released. I'm not at liberty to divulge who this person is, but they would be someone who wouldn't benefit from lying about the gun.

For me it would come down to the Kahr or the P250. Kel-Tec...NOT HARDLY.

Heckler und Koch. Although .357 is always a good idea in my book. Just not out of a snubby. A 3" 686 maybe? |

| Again, the price segment problem. Although I wouldn't mind carrying a 3" .357, I don't mind snubbies and I think the 686 would be a bit large for my application.

| If you have a local range take a few options for a test drive. Recently, I shot the Springfield XDs and loved it. Wasn't jumpy at all, and for a solid price you get a pocket cannon that's similar in size to the M&P shield. At the end its all personal preference.

I used to carry the SC P250 I got in my 2sum but I've changed a couple times, first to a G19 cause I realized than number one I hate shooting subs (no grip!) and number 2 I dont need to trade that much ammo per mag off for concealability. I can hide a compact just fine and as far as weight I dont mind the extra either for a gun I feel comfortable grabbing and some extra firepower. The second change over was to something I felt more comfortable with, being a 250 owner got me used to DAO, not Glock's almost SAO feeling striker mechanism. I also was front carrying when I first started concealing (and still do when wearing slacks or non-casual attire) I also got a small upgrade in firepower, for hardly any noticible difference in size I got myself a px4 storm full size type C (I was caught between the type C and D but liked the shorter travel of the C) Now I use this for work and concealed. I keep the 250 around as a bit of a safe queen, also to loan to a friend on a range or something if im gonna shoot with someone who doesnt actually have their own gun to save rental fees. I also use it for amateur competition shooting (you know, like amongst friends) because it has such a long sight radius. I may one day give it to my son... here's to hoping he doesnt grow up into one of these sissy college liberal types. |

I guess my major malfunction is the fact that I haven't fired any of these small handguns except for the .357 snubbie. I have big hands (6'4", 235#), and the super small handguns aren't comfortable, but I need to shoot for max concealability without dropping below 9mm Luger power levels. What is the usual price on the 938 in LGS and Cabela's? I'm not recoil sensitive at all, so popping .45s or .40s thru a tiny pistol ain't a big deal. I've handled most of the pistols in this list except for the XDs and Shield. I like the p250 and its modularity; I can quickly go to a full-size .45 combat pistol in a couple minutes. |

Still too big lol... I don't like Glocks that much, anyway. Strange ergos. Why doesn't Glock make a compact .45 along the lines of the 19? Last edited by SnakeShooter17; 11-07-2012 at 02:16 PM. |

For your price range, I like the P250SC. I had one for a little while and sold it to get a P239. I also have a Shield. You might be able to find a decent P6 in that price range also. The P6, P239, and the Shield are all single stack. My EDC is the P239.

I snagged a little Kel Tec .380 as part of a multi-gun deal. I was expecting to not like it a lot and send it on its way. Wrong. After a little break in, say 300 rounds of FMJ, the little bugger eats everything. At 7 to 12 yards, will throw a fist-sized group in fairly rapid fashion. Need to put a little fluorescent model paint on that front nub of a site for faster acquisition. Other than that, the little sucker has sort of become one of my faves. Of course, I've only got about $100 cash in it and wouldn't think of it as a primary carry gun, but it's not the POS I was expecting in this little experiment. It does need to be cleaned after each shoot and it likes to run a little on the wet side. I've got the 2022 in 9mm and have a S&W Shield on order. |
