Well my black Friday deal was in my opinion outstanding. Scored a new in box never fired pre-ban Colt R6430 AR-15 sporter in 9mm, and a CAI imported Imbel receiver FN-FAL for $1200.00 private sale (pictures to follow later). Here is my dilemma. Do I keep the Colt in the pristine condition, for maybe a sale sometime later to get money together for my 226 Legion, or do I shot the hell out of it enjoying every minute? To be honest I am leaning towards shooting it, but wanted a couple of other opinions. The FN is in good shape, and I will shoot it and compare it with the one I have, and keep which ever is better, after it beats the hell out of my shoulder.

If you haven't handled one you wouldn't understand, but if you're a P226 lover, the Legion will call to you. The changes are significant, and it is a very nice piece.

I'd shoot it!

From Wikipedia:

Federal Assault Weapons Ban

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB), formally titled the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, is a subsection of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, a United States federal law that included a prohibition on the manufacture for civilian use of certain semi-automatic firearms it defined as assault weapons, as well as certain ammunition magazines it defined as "large capacity."

Are you strapped for money? If so, and you want the Legion, put the Colt away. If not, shoot the Colt while you put money away for a Legion.
I would shoot the Colt, myself. Legions will be around for a long time, so you will have ample opportunity to pick one up later.

And, I second the aquisition of a 226 Legion. There isn't another package in the Sig lineup that offers the attributes and value of a Legion pistol.

An unfired pre ban colt ?? I thought they were test fired ?? . You bought it so your choice, same for the Fn Fal . ?? I have no interest in a collector firearm so if I bought it a range trip would be soon after .

If you are a highly skilled handgun shooter !! Buy a SAO X series and pass on the dressed up legion . Other wise buy more reloading related items .

Maybe a motorized Dillon 1050 press .

I don't think the Colt will bring all that much money later on, unless it becomes one of a very special limited number of guns. Not all "Colt" models will bring top dollar, so you'd do as well to sell it now and buy the Legion, if that is what you really want. In that case, I wouldn't shoot it much. But like it's been said, if you can be patient and save up for the Legion, keep and shoot the Colt.

Well, I am off to my LGS to get my TTT off of lay-a-way, then to the range to shoot the Colt and the TTT. My ex wife used to tell me when I told her I was buying a new gun as an investment "Its only an investment if you are going to sell it".

Thanks for that. I got two colt mags, and the original owner bought two other mags that look like modified UZI mags, I was wondering what if any other mags might fit.

Yes, technically its "used" if someone bought it. However, an "unfired" Colt like this one while it may not bring much bigger $ will still sell better than fired. It all depends what you want to do with it. If you bought it as an investment with possible re-sale later down the road, unfired by the end user in the factory box is an easy sale. I look at it this way, you may not make much money off it but a NIB Colt hardly ever goes down in value. You certainly shouldn't lose money on it assuming you didn't overpay in the first place. If you want the fun of shooting a Colt Sporter/AR15 then go ahead and shoot it. There is a way to shoot it and still keep it in nice condition.
