![]() The scabbard is by Condor Outdoor. Ordered it on-line a few years back, but don't remember from where. I replaced the carry strap with a Blackhawk 15rd sling/shell holder. With 15rds loaded up the sling was way too heavy on the gun, but it makes a great carry strap for the scabbard.

Lazy eyed, that's a beautiful 590 set-up! How do you like the ergonomics of the Magpul angled foregrip on the long reach of the shotgun?

Thank you Sir, The set-up works well for me. I run AFGs on most of my ARs, so the transition is natural. I've got some calcium build-up in my wrist from a break, so the ergos of the AFG make manipulation of the action much more comfortable. I also installed a Hogue 12" Short LOP stock which cut the reach of the gun by three inches compared to the factory 15" LOP. |

Nothing says 3 am like a pump action shotgun. I love my 870 express and look forward to adding a tactical rem to my sig

I'll toss in my 2 cents. All the shotguns mentioned are good reliable guns and I can't knock one over the other, with the one exception being the Kel-tec 14rnd and that's only because it hasn't been out long enough to prove it's reliability. My personal choice was a Maverick 88 and here is why.... It is basically the Mossberg 500 but with the rifle style button safety on the trigger guard. The 500 has the safety on the top/rear of the receiver behind the rear sights and I preferred the Maverick's style. The shotgun I would recommend for ultimate HD would be a pistol grip Saiga 12g. It's in a whole other league than the pumps though. The AK style action absorbs the recoil making it great for keeping on target.....especially at 3am after just being startled awake. It also has the largest magazine/drum capacity of any shotgun that I can think of. Since the Mossberg 500 was already purchased I would strongly suggest that the knoxx industries recoil reducing stock (any of the variations that you like) as the first accessory. It is pricey compared to non-recoil reducing stocks but it is well worth it. If you shoot 12g (bigger than bird shot) every weekend or every other then you get used to it and the kick isn't as bad. If you are like most though the 12g will only be brought out every few months or less and when it is it won't take long for your shoulder to be telling you to stop. I love shooting a 12g, big bang, big rounds, a lot of power, and it's just a great feeling to conquer and become real proficient with. I hate the fact that after 20-25 rounds (00 or slug) I no longer want to pull the trigger. This all changed after getting the Knoxx stock. I can rapid fire the whole mag tube with 3" magnum slugs, reload, repeat, and keep going until I run out of shells. This puts the fun back in ShotGfun.....the 'F' is silent LOL |

| Quote: That's a slick idea, combining the sling and scabbard. On the Moss 590 I owned almost a decade ago I had that type of sling and it was without a doubt one heavy beast. This setup let's you grab the shotgun (in it's scabbard) and throw it on like a bandolier..... now you're ready for the zombie horde. I now have one more thing to add to my shotgun "needs" list. | |

The rig works well for me. I do a lot of shooting at a buddy's farm and this set-up allows me to conveniently carry a decent amount of ammo while we're walking around the property. |

Plus, the Saiga can't be imported anymore, so what Saigas you can find are well over the $800 that the OP was asking about. I like the Saiga - don't get me wrong - but it is not a good home defense gun on a budget of "$800 or less".

| Stoeger Double Defense check this out. I think I like the side by side better, because you could put a pistol grip on it, both look cool though |
