All good choices, if you can find good used you will save some bucks. Just make sure it is in great condition, and there aren't any problems. Don't want to buy someone elses headache.

I love my Glock 19, never had a single issue. Yes they are polymer, but that thing is solid and I can shoot it all day. I was looking at the XD in 9 mm for my wife and I was really impressed with that firearm. Its a little more violent than a SIG, but really fun to shoot. I liked the fact that it had both a trigger and grip safety (this way she wont shoot me unless she intends to). What caliber are you thinking about? The only reason I ask is because I think the XD might be a little too violent in .40 and up for me. |

Honestly, in my opinion, both the XD and Glock's are good options. My Glock 19 is a 9 mm and I love to shoot that gun.

I'll probably get blasted for this but... As much as I like my SIGs, they are my "sunny day" and general carry pistols. If things have the potential to get rough and unpredictable, I still reach for my G19. It was my first modern gun purchase in years and is too reliable to put away. No, I don't like Glocks better...I just shoot my G19 better on auto-pilot. Regarding SIGs though, two of my three SIG Sauer pistols were purchased used and were very reasonable. Especially considering that one came with four mags and the other a .357SIG barrel on the side. There are good deals to be had so don't let the new MSRP's scare you away. |

You've also got the Sig Pro 2022 to consider. Same DA/SA w/ decocker as the P226. Frame is hard polymer, like the Glock. Street price between $400 and $500.

I do not own only SIGS. I own guns that fit my hands and shoot well for me. If you buy crap, sooner of later that's how you'll you shoot. Besides, if things do get nasty, I don't want to be in a place where I'm saying, "Boy at least I saved some money." Another great thing about buying used, most gun owners might put 200-400 rds down the barrel if your lucky. I know with each purchase I make I always ask the gun store if they performed the mandatory 300rd barrel test prior to my purchase. It would save me a bunch of money. I have shot the Glocks, own and carry the XDs, and just purchased my first SIG. The Sig, 226, feels very good in the hand. It is a full size gun so in a different category than the smaller XDs. I bought it for versatility. I will be using it for a range gun and a truck gun. Loaded with 20 rounds of quality 9 makes it a potent package. I can also get a conversion kit for other calibers. Practice a ton with 22 and switch back to 9 or 40 or 357sig for defense. The XDs is an excellent carry gun. It shoots softer than you would expect. It is accurate and the 45 is an excellent round. It makes a great companion gun to my 1911. The Sigs are more expensive than some. It is likely that they will outlast all of the poly guns. Buy one of each and sell the ones that don't agree with you... Last edited by Yeti; 01-13-2013 at 06:55 PM. |

What bearone asked. I have never heard of a mandatory 300rd barrel test.

Yes, I do agree about the price of the Sigs... but IMHO, in most cases, you get what you pay for... When I bought my first Sig back in the late eighties, I bought a P226 with the K-kote for $525.99 +tax and fees... They were a bit more expensive than their competitor, the Beretta 92F, but felt more ergonomically correct in my hands. When I brought it home and fired it for the first time, the end results were amazing. I eventually bought the 92F, but to this day, I favor my P226. When I compare all of my SIG's to the Springfield's and the Glocks, I favor my Sig's for the fit and feel which I think explains my performance with my Sig's... but that's just me...

Uh...the 300rd test thing, that was obviously a poor attempt at humor on my part. Forgive me. It has been my, joking way, of saying I would love to avoid the break-in cost of a new pistol i.e. 300rds. As related to a used gun purchase, many firearm owners don't come close to having put that many rounds (I have seen many at the range who believe a box or two quite adequate before it goes into their dresser drawer) through their gun. So a used purchase in many cases only facilitates a second buyer lower or no cost break-in.

| SIGlars and bearone2...
Please see my post on this thread #44. That comment I have used for years every time I bought a new gun. I ask the clerk if they ran the "Mandatory 300rd barrel check for me so I don't have to." It is only the reference towards the minimum break in period for a firearm and if they dropped the cost of six boxes of ammo I wouldn't have to. Purely meant as nothing more than tongue in cheek humor. I can't believe I may have inadvertently started a grass fire .
