I was checking my longarms yesterday, and discovered my Grandfathers hunting rifle is 100 years old this year. It is a Winchester Model 1894 in .30 WCF, and was built in 1913. My Grandfather loved hunting, and shooting as do I. He passed away in 1982, but I can remember when I was kid, sitting with him and listening to his hunting stories. I haven't used his rifle to hunt, but it sits next to my hunting rifle. |

My grandfather was a WWII veteran. He fought in the battle of Guadalcanal. He never talked about the war, he apparently didn't like to. I don't think he was a gun owner, though. Even though I didn't know him very well, I'd love to have received an heirloom firearm from him when he passed away, as something to remember him by. Take good care of that rifle! | |

That is really cool SIGDaK! I am working on a friend of mine. He is not very attached to his grandfather's Colt 45, model 17 revolver (with cavalry holster) that is about as old as your rifle. Friend wants something he can shoot and I want something collectible. I'll let you know if he goes for my trade proposal. |

Old arms always start interesting conversations. The history, and stories they bring with them.
