Home defense 12 gauge shotgun?

Any favorites out there on which one is good? Not looking for anything fancy, just a good reliable shotgun that would get the job done (if necessary!). Thanks

Can't beat a good Remington 870 IMO. I prefer the Police model or Wingmaster.

Remington 870.

And remember, using a shotgun well is a race to reload.

And, yes, you do have to aim them.

Which is why my military issue can hold 9 rounds of 2.75" or 8 of 3" and has a 6-shot side saddle.

For many years, I had a Rossi Coach Gun in my closet. Double Barrel, 18 1/2 inches, Exposed hammers that had a firing pin block if the Triggers werent' pulled all the way to the rear. I never felt either outgunned or insecure. Loaded with # 4 Buckshot. While the Remington 870 was for the Cruiser or the boat (Marine 870) I felt that the Rossi was something I could leave in the closet when I needed it.

And there are so many different loads available that are tailored to meet many different needs.

I agree with USMC on that #4 Buckshot! That's what my HD 870P is loaded with. It's hard to argue with 39 x 25 caliber lead balls! I hope I never have to use it on a human and God forbid if it happened, I hope the forensic team cleans up that mess.

Benelli M2

Benelli M2 Tactical with extended mag tube. 7+1 in a semi-auto that eats everything. No worries about short stroking a pump gun. It ran flawlessly at a shotgun course while the pump guns had all sorts of problems.

I have two Remingtons, an 1187 Police and an 870 marine magnum I take on my brother inlaws boat when we sail out of Miami.

Remington or Mossberg both are good guns. Set your price limit and pick one.
Neither is better or worse than the other.

A customs agent told me years ago they prefer shotguns on the water because slugs bust thru hulls on boats and sink them quicker than anything else.

Love my 590a1, it's a tank.

Remington 870 would be a close runner up.
