They really need to be educated in their product. I currently have a 357sig barrel on order for my 224/40 S&W. Good luck with your decision.
I'am talking about 9mm to 357sig I realize the 40 and 357sig a comparable I want to go from a 9mm to a 357sig or a357sig to a 9mm in which case they are tell me I need to change the slide also and thats on a 229. I have the 226 Legion
in 9mm and was told the same thing. I just don't want to buy the Legion 229 and
then have to spend $400 on a barrel and slide.
Thanks Guys

on the 229. I'am only saying this because I wouldn't want myself or anyone else
buying a 229 and thinking that we could just buy the barrel alone and make the conversion.
If you buy a P229 in .40 S&W or .357 SIG, all you need is the OEM/stock barrel of the other caliber. Changing a 9MM pistol to another caliber WILL require a caliber x-change kit since a .40 S&W barrel or .357 SIG barrel is too thick/wide to fit in a 9MM slide opening. Conversion barrels are an option only if going down to 9MM from either a .40 or .357 SIG pistol/slide.

AMAZING! Sometimes CS has not clue... this is a quote directly from Sig's website:

"DETAILS

Replacement barrel for SIG SAUER P229, chambered in .357SIG. 3.9" long. Will also fit a .40 AUTO P229 with no additional parts. SIG SAUER factory replacement pistol barrels are specially heat-treated for toughness and durability.

OP, I would say the cheapest way to go to shoot 9MM. .40 S&W & .357 SIG is to buy either the P229 in .40 S&W or .357 SIG... then buy the other stock barrel (.40 or .357 SIG) that you don't have and then a 9mm conversion barrel. I have no experience with conversion barrels in Sigs, so I can't speak to performance, etc.

Also, remember that with that 9MM conversion barrel, you will need to buy 9mm magazines, probably a new recoil spring, etc. Sometimes it's better to bite the bullet (pun intended) and just get the 9mm caliber x-change kit on sale since it comes with the complete slide assembly and a magazine. The only thing to remember is that the x-change kits come with a standard black nitron slide, not in Legion gray, and standard night sights. I don't have a problem with the idea since the Legion grips are black... the black slide still looks much nicer IMHO than the P229 Combat with the 3 different colors (black slide, bronzish/brass "FDE" metallic frame and yellow grips).

This is why I buy everything in 40, cause you can go to any of the three. IF you buy a 9 you're stuck with buying a exchange kit. I then buy the others from Barsto, I actually often replace the stock barrel. You can drop in the 357 barrel but for a few bucks more the Barsto's are outstanding barrels.
For the 9 you need the recoil spring so when I bought spare parts kits I just got a couple in 9 for the spring. I've used 40 magazines in a pinch for 9 when I forgot my 9 mags and didn't have a problem but I wouldn't make a habit of it if I had to depend on the weapon.

My P229 Legion is in 40 S&W, mostly because it was available and it was a good deal.

Unlike my P226's, I'll probably leave it in 40 because it's almost exclusively for CCW. I could get a 357 SIG barrel, but I'm not sure that the ballistic advantages of the 357 SIG is worth the cost of a new barrel. At least, no new mags are needed.

OTOH, I'm not sure about converting the 40 or 357 to 9mm. While it's easy to get a conversion barrel, I've heard that the P229 9mm mags are narrower. Does anyone actually know for certain? My P226 9mm mags work fine in the P229.

All of my 40's have the 357 capability except for my Legion and I have just not gotten a barrel for it yet .. I like both of those rounds and feel comfortable shooting them ..

The 229 mags are all the same size between the three calibers. They were different back when the 229 first came out.
