I was also surprised by that in my 19. Extremely soft shooting.

I use 124 grain HST rounds in my carry gun, Glock 43; my nightstand gun, P229 Legion; and in a Kel Tec Sub 2000 and haven't had any problems.
I ran into it on a couple of the Glock boards last year. There was also some conversation about it on the Walter forum, and on the Defensive Carry Forum.

I currently carry 147gr gold dots in all of my CC weapons. I shoot 147gr FMJ at the range for target shooting. The 147 is surprisingly soft as others have stated.

I would carry with HST if I could find them. All my local gun stores are always out of stock on them. I even searched the net a few times with none to be found anywhere. Georgia Arms is 8 miles from my house and they have thousands of 147gr gold dots on hand all the time so this is what I carry. I buy a few hundred at a time and carry them for a year then I shoot them and buy a few hundred fresh rounds to replace them.

Replacing ammo that's only a year old is a little excessive but I believe we should shoot what we carry every once and a while so I came up with this yearly rotation because it allows me to shoot my carry ammo and keeps fresh ammo in my magazines.

Best price on HST 124, 124+P, 147 and 147+P are all $17.50 a box or $350.00 a case of 1,000. which came out to just under $380.00 delivered from Vegas to Florida

Along with Winchester Ranger T-Series and Ranger Bonded. I will buy HST, Gold Dot, or Ranger T/ Bonded without a second though, simply based on who has what in stock for a decent price. As far as I'm concerned the three are pretty much interchangeable. I do like that Ranger are available in +P+...I'm not sure if the other two are or not.

I have been using Gold Dot 124 P+....147 has a little more piercing power but not as much expansion.

That's a little backwards, I believe. The 124 +P is going to be moving considerably faster than the 147, which is a heavier, slower moving bullet. This is one of the reasons 147 doesn't achieve quite the same measure of expansion. The faster moving 124 is going to pierce easier than the heavier, slower moving 147, which is going to hit a little harder and stop quicker.

In order of preference-
HST
Gold Dot
Hydra-Shok

After measuring how poor the accuracy is with Hornady and Winchester I won't touch their insanely overpriced and underperforming ammo.

This may help...

in your determinations. Many of the ones mentioned are listed in these tested. I looked for consistency in penetration, by FBI standard, consistency/size in expansion, and minimum 124gr...velocity of over 1000fps was a plus for me. Using my criteria the best choice, for me, using the below data, was Federal 124gr HST.

HST, Gold Dot, or Winchester Ranger-T...all in 147g. I am not at all fond of Critical Defense or Critical Duty.

Yes. You would have to replace springs sooner, but yes, it won't damage the gun.

I'm not doubting you, since I've never compared the two on paper. But it seems odd to me. I know with rounds like my 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser, the heavier for caliber bullets have far greater penetration than the lighter, faster ones. I know handgun and rifle bullets are different animals, so like I said, I don't doubt you, I just find it interesting.
