This is what I was told when I spoke to the Sig representatives in February at the Harrisburg PA sportsman's show. I handled the p220 SAO Legion and was very impressed.

I wonder if they might also be working on "improving" the Legion finish so there aren't issues/complaints like some folks have had on the current guns. Just thinkin' out loud...

Ruger does a great job with new product rollouts. The day the new gun is announced, all the YouTube bloggers upload their video reviews. Press releases, etc AND the gun is being shipped at the same time. They may sell out of the initial guns quickly and you might have to go to Gunbroker but they exist. Ruger does a great job of keeping the product secret while having reviewers spend time with them and get them shipped all before the announcement from Ruger. Pretty impressive.

Sig, not so much.

Same people at the Harrisburg show told me two months, which was three months ago. I was on the phone with a SIG customer service person last week about a repair. He said he had no idea, but said the people at the shows sometimes are a bit overzealous in what they say. They probably want to give us some hope, rather than listen to us complain.

I was out riding my unicorn last night and ran into a big foot. He told me that he had heard the P220 Legion would be in stores soon.

I'm really not sure what the deal is with sig and 220's... I could never get the ASE220, got the 227,229 and 226 versions, but nada on the 220 one. and now the Legion 220 becomes another unicorn.

Emailed my Sig CSR this morning about a warranty issue, and also asked about the P220 Legion... no confirmed release date, but said it will be sometime this summer.

Currently...not holding my breath!

I am in Canada, but I dare say I am first in line (in Canada of course) since I ordered mine in December. I eagerly await the P220 Legion, in particular the SAO.

If they do make any changes to the finishing process I don't think it would every be made public. If they admit to a fault like that then a fix they will have a ton of Legion owners flooding email and phone lines looking for a refinish on their firearms. Then they would have to come up with a process if ones wear was "normal" or not. Just my opinion. If they do it or did change it somehow I wouldn't expect to find out without some insider information.

I agree, Sig won't ever admit to any "fault" in the product or process for the reasons you outlined.

However, what if they went to a completely different finish like Colt did on the M45A1 pistols? The first ones were done in Cerakote. Then they changed to Ionbond and now they use Decobond. They're all some sort of FDE type color but one is "supposed to be" more durable than the other.

Again, not saying they are or will...just wondering out loud...

I personally love the finish, like the color itself and application on mine. Wear is yet to be determined since I only had it a week. But if it ever got bad I would just cerakote it as close to the same color it is now or see if Sig can reapply the factory finish. But even cerakotes are not all created equal. I had an EDC Tactical upper/lower I was building for a 300blk pistol. I actually sold it to help pay for my Radian Weapons Model 1. The EDC Tactical cerakote was nice but it was nothing in comparison to my Radian. I put a 150 rounds through my Radian on its first outing. You know typical marks you get on the shell deflector? Well I was able to clean them off with some CLP and you would never know it was even shot no cerakote was chipped or scratched through... The application was perfectly smooth and evenly applied. The EDC Tactical had some heavy and light spots in the application around the tight space areas like around the forward assist and was noticably rougher. So like a lot of things, not all cerakotes are created equal either. Not knocking EDC Tactical, they are a great group of guys and are local to me. I really believe in this case from even other jobs I have it really is just praising Radian Weapons. And in the case of the Legion if it was not on a pedestal when it comes to it's class of handgun most people wouldn't bat an eye over some of the complaints I have read about.
