Hi from the Philippines

Hi to all from the not so sunny Philippines!

I am an English expat living in the Philippines, my girlfriend is a member of the PPSA (Philippines Practical Shooting Association) and got me in to shooting about a year ago ...

I probably own two of the most comparatively expensive handguns around due to local taxes! A recently purchased Sig P229r E2 which cost $2,090 & an XDM 3.8 which cost $1,480, both in 9mm as it's most common round available here.

Some will say 'stupid money' but that's the price you pay to own a decent gun here. I have PTC (permit to carry) on both and get to enjoy the local range most weekends when it's pissing down with rain! Also get some great weekends away with the PPSA and see some beautiful parts of the country to-boot!

I look forward to some good info here and I am sure a bit of banter !

Ben welcome. How do you like Pinas? My paternal cousins were into practical shooting too back in thedayswhen the only pistol available were 1911's that rattled like crazy. 9mm used to be an exotic round! How much is the cost of ammo these days?

Carbine37, I am paying 14 peso, about 30 cents, for a local 9mm fmj Armscorp round which I use on the range ... I use imported Winchester Rangers for carry and they cost 65 peso, 1.50 usd.

as for the 'local' 1911's I've shot them at the range ... I think they are made of spare tractor parts !!!

The local made MAPII is not a bad pistol my driver carries one, I have shot that a couple of times but don't like it in the 45 cal that he has.

Things have come on a bit over here though ... take a look here.

Welcome from a US Navy Seabee who spent over a year in Subic bay helping to rebuild the base and town after MT. Pinatubo blew.

Met some good people over three!

I spent Chinese New Year Holiday there last long weekend ... you would not recognise the base at all now but the bars along the road going to Baloy Beach have not changed much

Forgot to say that there is a lot of rumour flying round here at the moment suggesting that the US Government are looking to 'take back' Clark & Subic in some part or form ...
