New Sig 556R owner

Hi Everyone! Want to introduce myself, my name is Scott and i live in Florida. Just purchased a Sig 556R 7.62x39. I have heard its the top AK platform rifle out and wanted to see it for myself. Just out of the box, 2ND GEN, October 2012 mfg date. I ordered a Trijicon 3x30 acog and sig folding iron sights. Going to a range on Saturday in the Pocono's PA where i FFL'ed the rifle. (Currently hunting up here!) So I can sight the red dot and see what its got. 1000 rounds of WPA polyformance should be enough!

Best Regards and thanks for the great site!

Hello from Sunny Northeastern Ohio 27 degrees tonight! Also purchased the 556R September 2012 Production date. It is a great rifle, going out tomorrow morning to sight it in at 100 yards at our state range. I really enjoy the rifle and have picked up a couple more Steel AK mags for it and changed out the hand guard to a 556 tri-rail version. Hope to get a better optic for it in the future, but there will be some BUI sights before the end of the year for it. The Sig set looks good, I know there are several other manufacturers that have front & rear sets that would work as well, but I know the flip up front will co-witness with the Sig Red Dot from another 556R owner's experience.

I also heard front flip Iron will co-witness, nice to hear it again since I ordered em up, and rear diopter seems...interesting.(not a lot of experience with it). I went out to a state range in PA today and put 420 rounds through it. (went yesterday and just ran 2 clips, brought it home and cleaned it to see how it took first time)Very foggy at range and that added to the experience, no one else there so i was able to run some tactical approach drills with it and the red dot worked very well for this. Rifle shot 1-2 inch group at 25 yds, 2-3 at 50 and 5 at 100 using wolf WPA Polyformance 123 g. No FTF, FTL or any other issue. Rifle ran flawlessly and exceeded my expectations. Used 3 (polytec?) steel mags and the bulgarian comp that came with it. Cant wait for the Acog I ordered. Also ordered a Swiss bayonet and sling to round it out for now. Dont know if I will change out hand rail, but it does move/rattle some. Maybe if I put a grip on it and need the longer rail.

I am also looking at a few bipods for it. Any suggestions? Looked at Blackhawk(in-expensive compared to others with same features)or Harris(expensive but very durable) so far.

I also just added the Sig 556R to my list of Sig firearms. It will be here May 8th. I also just picked up a sig P938 extreme got it in a trade. Nice little pocket 9mm. My Army Ranger friend also has the Sig 556R and we went through about 500 rounds 2 weeks ago and it shot amazing so I ordered my own, can't have him be one up on me....It's an Army vs Navy thing
