Cool SIG newbie with a 250C .45

I just bought a "pre-enjoyed" SIG 250C at Cabelas for $399.00. It came with 2 magazines. I probably overpaid, but it was my fault for waiting until now. The box it came in has an October 2012 date and the Cabelas label showed it was added to their Gun library in December 2012. Why would someone return the gun after one month? I did some initial research on it, but not that much. However, after I came home with it, I started finding all kinds of negative stories and reviews about it. Could that be the Gen 1 model? I bought it for home defense for my wife and I to use. I want to make sure that I didn't jump into something that's not going to come through for me every time. Also, when it was at the store, the salesman would pull the slide back and it would stay in the open position. However, after doing that a few times at home, it won't stay in the open position any longer. I have to manually push the slide lock lever up for it to do so. I haven't owned a firearm in over 12 years. I had to SW Sigma 40s and 2 AB10's that I bought because they looked cool. Does the P250 have similar kick to the SW Sigma 40s? Sorry for throwing so much out there on my first post, but I'm getting a little nervous about my purchase.

Call Sig and talk to the support representative. They should be able to identify it by the serial number.

My P250 subcompact in 40 and 9 is very manageable as far as kickback. My P250 full in 45 I was surprised how tame it was.

Thanks for the info. It is a Gen2. I was able to identify it by the new hand grip and the standard picatinny rail. The Gen 1 had a rounded non-standard rail and a different hand grip altogether. It just seemed strange that someone would trade-in or return a gun after a month. I haven't shot it yet but, I'm hoping to do so soon.

Forgot about the grip changes. You are going to like shooting it.

If there is an empty mag in the gun the slide should lock back on it's own. If there is no mag in the gun or a mag with bullets in it the slide should not lock back. I highly recommend paying a professional for some refresher lessons. We can't afford any accidents giving the firearms world any , more black eyes right now.

I hear ya. I'm planning on taking a basic firearms and defensive shooting course again. I did test with the empty mag and it did lock. I can't believe the stories about the gun show incidents. 3 in one weekend? Also, that kid in NM that took his family out? How did a 15 year old get access to that AR15 in the first place?
