Washington Times Opinion Page Editor Learns to Shoot

Washington Times' opinion pages editor Emily Miller has been writing about her experience trying to legally purchase a handgun in Washington, D.C. Her blog posts provide a juxtaposition between the frustrating bureaucracy of restrictive handgun laws and the entertainment of someone handling and understand firearms for the first time.

She started the blog series, called "Emily Gets Her Gun", earlier this month with a tale that explains why she's making the plunge into firearms and their applications self-defense. Today she learned how to operate one at a gun range, and the instructor wisely chose for her a Browning Buckmark (.22 caliber) , a 9mm Sig P226, and a Kahr K40 (.40 S&W). The way she describes her reactions to the different pistols is about what you'd expect from a first-time shooter.

This will be an interesting series to watch, and has the added benefit of laying down some procedural groundwork for anyone else looking to follow in her footsteps.

Thanks for sharing... I found the articles quite interesting. Emily trying to buy a gun sort of reminds me of an average Californian trying to get a CCW...

I enjoyed this article as well. Maybe if everyone realized how ridiculous some of these gun laws are it will sink in that they do nothing but hinder and annoy law abiding citizens from owning firearms. But lets not get started on that....

But yes good article and yea same thing with me trying to get a CCW in Jersey.....
