In a cover story titled "Sig's Scorpions", American Handgunner magazine takes the SIG 1911 Scorpion and Sig P229R Scorpion (.40 SW) for a test spin. The results are as positive as you'd expect, and the pictures are well worth checking the issue out when it arrives.

We'd heard of the P229R Scorpion back before SHOT 2011, but this is the first picture I've seen of one. It seems to be finished in Flat Dark Earth and outfitted with some wicked looking custom grips. The author was especially pleased with its accuracy and overall performance.

The issue is set for January/February 2012 publication.

I subscribe to American Handgunner, and I already received that issue... Interesting article!

And really no different than a standard P229R.

Agreed. I love SIG and I will die still loving SIG, but it seems a lot of their recent "new products" are just paint jobs and new Hogue grips. I think SIG is ahead of the game in pistol quality, but I'm ready to see more innovative mechanical designs and less artistic fluff. I will give credit that they are producing new products, I just wish there was more of it or the same amount, with an even higher standard for the resultant product.
