| ![]() SHOT Show 2011 started this morning in Las Vegas - expect plenty of cool pictures in the coming week. First up are these two images that were posted on Sig Sauer's Facebook page. Above is the P238 Diamond Plate, and below is the P210. Not a bad start! Update: Looks like I caught them in the middle of a batch upload. Now posted are pictures of the P290 with a purple grip insert, the 1911 Scorpion, a 1911 .22, and a 1911 Traditional Match Elite. Not all of the photos are high-resolution, but go check them out anyway! ![]() |

Maybe I misspoke. Trust me, I don't have $2500 to blow. On the other hand, I bought a new P210-2 in the mid-80's and pissed it away on something I had to have at the time. Having owned and shot one, I know some of the shortcomings of this pistol. I know this sounds sacrilegious to the purists, but I actually like some of the changes the Germans/Swiss are making to this model over the original. From what I have read so far, these are all valid changes. I have no doubt that the Germans are as capable of building this gun as the Swiss were. I will probably have to sell or trade something, but I am determined to own one.

I have to say, though I love SIG, I really dislike the "diamond plate" finish. To me it looks cheap and hokey and possibly a result of the popularity of the cheap stamped and chromed "diamond plate" that people are slapping on trucks, tool boxes, etc. I suppose my opinion is known, so I'll leave it at this... Collage of the general types of SIG Sauer consumers. ![]() Collage of the general types of consumers who will be interested in, but not necessarily buy, the Diamond Plate P238 |

SEMPERFink you took the words right out of my mouth. I could do without some of this fluff that Sig is starting to stick on some of their guns. Maybe this stuff sells, but I prefer the utilitarian look and the "to hell and back reliability" that made me respect them in the first place.

No problem txhurricane. Just to the contrary, I was pointing out that I was stupid enough to own a Swiss made gun and, blaming it on youth, I let it go for whatever was hot at the time. I'm thinking I gave somewhere around $1100 for it w/spare mag around 1987 or so from Doug Keisler, owner of Keisler Police Supply. And trust me, that kind of money for a cop in 1987 was a major, major investment. Seriously, on the P210-2 I bought new, the sights were not that great, the ramp was designed for ball ammo, hammer bite was possible (at least for me), the safety was a two handed proposition, and the bottom mag release was extremely tough to operate. Granted, all of this may have been the result of a finely fitted gun, and wear may have loosened things up a bit. The P210-2 was the bottom of the line at that time (if there ever was such an animal), with fixed sights, plastic grips, and the parkerized type finish. I think you will see that the new 210 ad addresses these same issues specifically. If the German/Swiss collaboration has fixed these issues, and it appears that they have, this should be one fine handgun. Not having the Swiss cross in front of the front sight on the slide is kind of disappointing, but not worth the 1500-2000 difference in price between it and the current Swiss guns on the market. And no, they do not look like a $2500 gun. I hate to use this cliche, but the Swiss watch thing does apply. When you hold one of these guns in your hand, you know are holding something "special". It will be interesting to see if the Germans can keep this aspect of the 210 alive. If not, it's going to be a hard $2500 sell. |

Being a sailor, the picture of the diamond plate resembles deck plating to me. Not that I would buy one.

If he was taken by an M107, I would like to see a video of that. Hahah. The bottom set is supposed to look like a bunch of jaskasses. That was my point on the diamond plate P238. SEMPER FI! I just have another year of college then I'm enlisting! I'm so excited to be done with school and in the Corps, but I haven't decided what MOS I'd like to pursue. I'm too tall to fly, so I want a ground combat MOS, just not sure which one.

Most of best friends from home are Marines, and they all told me to make sure everything is in writing. They all offered to go to the recruiter with me too, hahah.

There is some scuttlebutt about Sig currently working on a P229 subcompact and that it's supposedly able to take the full size magazines, a la magazine interchangeability like a Glock. Mutliple sources on the "other" Sig forum that are reputable. My guess is Shot 2012 it will be revealed.

That sounds good to me! I'd be interested in that since I have larger hands, I prefer to have a full length grip for comfort and control.
